JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Communications and Marketing Strategist oversees all activities of the College of Medicine's Communications and Marketing operations. This position creates and builds awareness and knowledge of new College of Medicine programs and achievements while building and expanding awareness and knowledge of existing programs, achievements, and events. This position manages the communications and marketing work direction of departmental communications coordinators and serves as a liaison between the college and university Office of Communication and Marketing.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversees, creates, designs, and maintains the College of Medicine and Departmental web pages to market and publicize strategic information to all stakeholders.
Manages, approves, and coordinates all updates and improvements to the College sites among the other various campuses of UT’s medicine related departments (Chattanooga and Nashville).
Partners with the web development team in the Office of Communications and Marketing to implement UTHSC web branding guidelines across the College of Medicine website, staying current on new standards as they are developed.
Oversees and approves creation and design of reports, letters, emails, and announcements for administrators, faculty, and departments, as needed; creates, drafts, and edits internal and external communications in a variety of formats; creates and submits entry packets for awards and competitions that highlight and champion the College of Medicine brand in the public sphere.
Develops and edits copies for publications to promote achievements, awards, and donations made to the College of Medicine and departments; oversees and edits presentations for departmental or college events.
Communicates and translates complex and technical information and subject matter in a way that can be easily consumed by a target audience.
Works closely with college administrators and the Office of Communications and Marketing to write stories that help publicize the college in local, regional, and national news and for both external and internal publications.
Oversees and directs departmental coordinators to ensure standardization and compliance with UT branding and policy.
Determines and maintains a college schedule for ongoing and project-related publications.
Creates, plans, and develops communication and marketing strategies with the executive dean, administrators, and department chairs to best promote the College of Medicine and individual departments.
Provides administrative oversight for the UTHSC College of Medicine social accounts: Facebook, X, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
Perform other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience in mass communications and/or marketing or related field; OR Master’s Degree in lieu of experience.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

· Must be a confident communicator and presenter.

· Strong writing, editing, proofreading skills, layout and design experience and professional printing/publishing expertise.

· Ability to create, edit, and maintain digital content and websites.

· Knowledge of enterprise content management systems, preferably OmniUpdate and WordPress.

· Ability to communicate with multiple diverse audiences including faculty and staff of differing educational levels.

· Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment; work and think proactively, prioritize tasks, plan, and develop creative strategies.

· Ability to provide attention to detail and adhere to deadlines.
