Job Description

Position Description
The Synthetic Biology Hive (https://synbiohive.org/) is a new hub for synthetic biology research in the Boston area. The Hive aims to tackle the urgent problems of today — climate change, food insecurity, pandemics and many more — using the powerful tools made possible by a deep understanding of biological processes. Our mission is two-fold: pioneer novel solutions to global problems and train the individuals who will lead the transition to a new biology-based economy.

We are seeking a Research Assistant for our Cornucopia project, which aims to develop an engineered bacterial strain to produce food from air, water and sunlight. The person in this position will help design and test novel strains to use hydrogen gas, nitrogen and CO2 efficiently to produce protein and carbohydrate. This is an exciting position for a recent graduate who wants to contribute to a potentially transformative project. The successful candidate will have molecular biology skills and an understanding of the principles of engineering and evolving bacteria to have desired properties.

Basic Qualifications
  • College background in biology or a related discipline.
  • 1-2+ years of experience.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Experience in molecular biology lab techniques.
