Organizational Unit Overview
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is a clinical science department within the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. As the regions only academic OBGYN department, the primary functions of the department are to teach obstetrics and gynecology to medical students, resident physicians, post graduate students, nurses and other allied health professional, provide evidence-based and comprehensive clinical service to the region, and conduct clinical research featuring our rural mission.
Job Duties
ECU Brody School of Medicine’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking a full-time Nursing Assistant to work in its outpatient Women’s Clinic. The Nursing Assistant provides clinical support to the nursing and medical staff within the OB/GYN clinics held at ECU Women’s Physicians. This position is responsible for maintaining patient flow, performing patient work-up, assisting health care providers with clinic procedures, and performing basic laboratory tests. In addition, this assistant may schedule appointments, call prescriptions in to the pharmacy, or perform other clerical tasks as required to support the physician and nursing staff. This position will be utilized to help with the flow of clinic. It will stock rooms, do vital signs, and act as a chaperone.

The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is affiliated with ECU Health Medical Center, which serves as its teaching hospital, as well as the flagship hospital for ECU Health.

Employment in this position provides eligibility to participate in the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP) which offers matching employer contributions and employee control of investment choices, along with eligibility to participate in various Voluntary Supplemental Retirement Plans (401k, 403b. 457). This position is not eligible to participate in the NC Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS). Minimum Education/Experience
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require registration as a Nurse Aide by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, or certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA.)
License or Certification required by statute or regulation
Depending on candidate qualifications, one of the following will be required:
(1) Contributing: Registered NAI through the NC Department of Health Human Services
(2) Journey: Registered NAII through the NC Board of Nursing
(3) Advanced: Certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) is preferred OR Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through the American Medical Technologists (AMT). If not already certified or registered, please note that certification or registration through the previous mentioned organizations, or a CCMA through the National Healthcareer Association, must be obtained 6 months from your start date for continued employment.
