What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking an Information Systems Engineering Manager to lead the Knowledge Systems Department in the Enterprise Information Management group!

Knowledge Systems builds and supports the applications and infrastructure that run the labs data and knowledge transfer and management applications. Our team of engineers, computer scientists, and information management professionals design, develop, and administer knowledge application solutions for the lab including those supporting enterprise AI deployments. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with teams and leadership across Sandia’s Mission and Enterprise domains as well as key vendors and customers including NNSA and DOE.

On any given day you may be called on to:

  • Lead department-level planning for tool and technology choices and support group and center strategic conversations
  • Lead engagement and communication with key functional and program management colleagues for partnered work and execution
  • Provide mentoring and direction to staff including developing career goals and working to align assignments with those goals
  • Assure program/capability/service execution (department-level budgets, resourcing, and deliverables) and address performance and execution challenges
  • Lead a team with varied and flexible work arrangements including virtual work, telecommuting, staff at customer locations, matrix agreements, and on-call requirements
  • Act as a liaison between customers, technical staff, or DOE/NNSA on technical initiatives
  • Engage technically across the department to understand and represent work while rationalizing products and services towards value for stakeholders
  • Participate in the development of methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people, and assist in determining how to optimize resources to meet work scope, schedules, budgets, and organizational goals
  • Manage the personnel in the organization by encouraging a diverse work environment and ensuring a culture that promotes inclusion, diversity, safety, and security
  • Travel to vendor or customer locations
  • Support both unclassified and classified environments and conversations

The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, plus 8 years of experience; or equivalent (AS + 12 years or no degree + 16 years)
  • Included in the experience above:
  • At least 5 years of relevant technical leadership of software/IT projects with scrum-sized teams (5-9 people) or larger
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Graduate degree in computer science, information systems, or other relevant advanced degree.
  • Demonstrated history of project management and delivery of IT and software projects within cost, schedule, and performance constraints
  • Proven ability to create and adhere to SLAs
  • Proactive engagement with customers and colleagues to manage execution uncertainties and the impact of new information
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of service management processes and architectures such as ITIL and ITSM
  • Proven use of and certifications in Agile software processes and development methodology, such as Kanban, Scrum, SAFe, or equivalent
  • Understanding of software quality assurance and risk-based testing (RBT)
  • Experience in building, developing, and maintaining a team of highly skilled interdisciplinary IT professionals
  • Knowledge and demonstrated application of AI technology for mission and business use cases.
  • Leadership and development cloud applications for Azure, AWS, Google, etc., and familiarity with cloud ecosystems
  • An active DOE Q-Level clearance (or equivalent) to start

Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
