Primary Responsibilities:

OAN Programming:  The Autism Mental Health Practitioner will use a strength-based and growth mindset, to help construct innovative programs to meet the needs of community stakeholders. He/she/they will serve as a representative of the Network in advocacy, training and awareness campaigns, technical assistance programs, and marketing activities. All programming offered through the Network should be evidence-based so the candidate needs the skill set to locate, interpret, synthesize, and summarize medical literature. The Autism Mental Health Practitioner may assist the OAN Director with planning and/or executing fundraising efforts and maintaining the fiscal responsibility of the Network.

Program Evaluation: Routinely assess new and existing OAN initiatives for effective outcomes from the perspective of all stakeholders involved. Program evaluation will be a reiterative process that includes program modification, renewal and termination based on measurable outcomes, financial resources, and stakeholder input. Where possible, program outcomes should be considered research/scholarship and disseminated locally and nationally.

Integration: Create ways to integrate the work of OAN, LTC, RS, and other relevant stakeholders such as the OU Child Study Center, I-LEAP (Interprofessional Language, Enrichment and Pre-kindergarten Program) and OU Health. Actively participate in planning and teaching opportunities for professional and post-professional learners. The OAN Mental Health Practitioner will be a part of a transdisciplinary diagnostic assessment team, provide mental health support and therapeutic interventions or services to the individuals and families we serve grounded in respect and appreciation for individual strengths and differences. 

Network Advisement: Actively participate in committees and teams that are instrumental in planning the needs of OAN, the LTC, and the department.  Where applicable, assist with Network strategic planning, training review, department, and program retreats and/or relevant subcommittees as requested.

 

Required:

Background: Has clinical, advocacy, and training experience with individuals with autism spectrum disorders and their families. Values client and family-centered practice as pivotal to success in working with autistic people.

Education: Earned professional degree in in one of the mental health sciences or related fields; preferred post-professional degree.

Experience: At least three years working in the field of developmental disabilities with specific experience in autism spectrum disorder, as a clinician, advocate, or educator. Previous experience with diagnostic evaluation and transition interventions from school, employment, and independent living, as well as parent coaching is strongly preferred.
