Overview
The Business Manager II serves in a financial leadership role with the Ecology Center Business Services unit supporting multiple colleges and departments across campus. The position provides and oversees all business and financial functions such as: cash/revenue receipting/management, budget preparation, budget reconciliation, data management, financial document retention, purchasing, personnel, fiscal management, transaction review and control, financial reporting, research administration, and support to faculty in pursuing and managing sponsored research.

The mission of the Ecology Center is to support and promote research and graduate education in ecology at USU and beyond. The center facilitates collaboration among ecologists across three colleges at USU. Much of the center’s business activity focuses on supporting sponsored research.
Responsibilities
Performs or oversees functions such as budget preparation, budget reconciliation, data management (department and financial), and fiscal information support.
Maintains annual budget.
Manages grant and contract administration to include pre-award, active award, and post-award management.
Assures through approvals all transactions comply with federal, state, agency specific, and university policies.
Knowledge and experience with compliance regulations of federal, state, and university policies.
Supervises staff.
Oversees graduate student awards, scholarships, graduate insurance, and financial document retention.
Manages payroll.
Reconciles and reviews monthly financial reports.
Develops and maintains monthly and ad hoc reporting including financial projections as needed.
Maintains an accurate understanding of multiple fund types held in department including E&G, overhead, contracts/grants, start-up, unrestricted, service centers, etc.
Communicates and coordinates with other colleges and departments within and outside USU regarding financial matters.
Accurately responds to questions and concerns from multiple constituents including faculty, staff, students, coworkers, clients, subcontractors, and others using tact and discretion.
Maintains and supports appropriate privacy and confidentiality forms and processes, assuring information is securely maintained.
Performs duties in accordance with professional standards and University policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a business field plus three years of experience or an equivalent combination of education plus experience.
Experience with grant and contract funding practices (fund accounting) and compliance regulations.
Experience in supervision and able to foster an inclusive and team-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated excellent communication skills
Experience with Kuali and Banner
Advanced Excel skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
Ability to work independently with little or no supervision, as well as collaboratively and dynamically in team-based settings.
Ability to deal discretely with confidential and sensitive information showing good judgement and decision-making skills.
