Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Art Museum is dedicated to the collection, exhibition, conservation and study of the art of African Americans. It houses one of North Carolina’s leading collections of works by African American artists and others dealing with the black experience. The collection consists of more than, 200 paintings, sculpture, prints, drawings and considerable examples of traditional African art. Since its founding, the museum has engaged in an intensive effort to acquire works of outstanding aesthetic quality and art historical significance. The permanent collection is the foundation for exhibitions and programs, research and publications for the university and beyond. The NCCU Art Museum is a vital teaching resource and cultural institution on the campus of North Carolina Central University.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Administrative Assistant at the University Art Museum plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the museum. This position involves a range of tasks including administrative, organizational, and even some hands-on duties within the museum. The ideal candidate has a passion for art, possesses strong organizational and communication skills, and thrives in both team-oriented and self-driven settings.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
This individual requires strong organizational skills and attention to detail,
Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
A team player with a positive attitude and the ability to work independently,
Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and database management, Familiarity with art and art history is a plus as this position requires considerable flexibility in dealing with artists, transporting of art, complicated packing problems and in working with the public. The art must be carefully studied in assessing its state and in generating condition reports.
Minimum Education/Experience
High School Diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
