Job Description
Reporting directly to the department chair and serving as the designated representative for signature authorization for budget matters, this position is responsible for managing all departmental budgets including analyzing, reconciling, projecting, monitoring, and reporting using accounting-based software and ODU’s BANNER systems in accordance with the Commonwealth of Virginia’s policies and procedures. This position will supervise full-time employee(s).

Working knowledge of GAAP, including execution of financial reporting. Working knowledge of effective customer service and problem resolution techniques. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with a diverse public. Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft 365 productivity tools including Word, Excel, Access, and electronic mail programs Demonstrated ability to produce regular and ad hoc reports. Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, exercise judgment, make decisions, and work independently. Demonstrated ability to perform and supervise a large volume of varied management tasks, compile data and produce reports. Demonstrated ability to record and manipulate data and produce reports using word processing and spreadsheet software, especially the Microsoft Office Suite programs.

Level and type of experience
Considerable experience as a financial manager with experience maintaining complex financial records using multiple financial software platforms. Considerable experience in expense management and procurement. Considerable experience in using data management systems such as spreadsheets and bookkeeping or financial software, enterprise software and relational databases. Some supervisory experience.
Additional Considerations (supplemental knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification)
Considerable knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia’s accounting policies & procedures. Considerable knowledge of financial procedures within the Commonwealth of Virginia and federal grant management. Some experience with Chrome River system. Some experience in an academic/research department.
