Job Description

Job Summary:
This position functions under close progressing to limited supervision of the Soils Laboratory Manager. Primary responsibilities include performing analytical procedures, preparing samples for testing, quality control monitoring, and result reporting & interpretation. The employee is expected to collaborate with other chemists to determine priorities for testing, and contribute to the efficient operation of the Soils Lab.

This position will conduct digestions and extractions on soil, plant, manure and limestone samples to determine nutrient content. Exposure to ICP-OES spectroscopy and flow analysis equipment is preferred. Seasonal workflow may require hours beyond standard working hours in the spring and fall, not to exceed 50 hours per week.

The employee in this position is expected to use the tools and principles of quality management in performing their daily work including the following: Demonstrate exceptional customer service by establishing and maintaining effective professional relationships with managers, supervisor, coworkers, and all customers. Provide constructive feedback for the purpose of continuous improvement in a manner that is supportive of the State Laboratory of Hygiene and its mission. Use data collection tools as appropriate. Use effective team skills to contribute to the efficient operation of the work unit. Present ideas, carry out assignments, and provide information as required. Participate in continuous learning through professional development activities.

Education:
Required
Bachelor's Degree in a science related field (e.g. environmental sciences, chemistry, etc.).

Qualifications:
Candidates with multiple years of laboratory experience in an agricultural or environmental laboratory setting will receive preference.
