Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining software for plant breeding and genetics data collection and management with priority on improving and expanding the PhenoApp suite (phenoapps.org). The developer will collaborate with diverse stakeholders to implement new features into current apps. Responsible for rapidly fixing bugs and solving new problems to meet project objectives and timelines.

JOB DUTIES:
65% - Essential - Development: Translate functional requirements into technical design and development projects. Create and support mobile applications using JVM (Java and/or Kotlin) and scripting languages. Independently research solutions to programming challenges. Utilize test-driven development to create, improve, and troubleshoot code.

20% - Essential - Documentation and maintenance: Create and maintain internal and external documentation regarding software projects. Implement policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of developed software. Maintain and improve existing software to keep up with changing technology and standards.

15% - Essential - Collaboration: Work with other developers and users to establish or modify functional requirements for apps and other software.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education - High School or Equivalent - A high school diploma and work experience in the modification and maintenance of system programs, the design and development of system software, or the testing and debugging of system software. An associate's degree or a bachelor's degree in a related field may be substituted for the required work experience
Work Exp 3+ years

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Bachelor's Degree - Computer science or a related field and work experience that is directly related to the area of employment
Education - Master's Degree - Computer Science or equivalent field

Preferred Experience: Development experience with mobile apps used for phenotypic data collection.
