Summary

The Department of Pediatrics Division of Tropical Medicine seeks a Research Operations Associate to work in the Laboratory for Translational Virology and Pathogen Resource Core. The purpose of the position is to oversee research operations and work in virology, immunology, and epidemiology. The individual filling this position is expected to manage inventory, arrange equipment maintenance, manage purchases, assist with research schedules, and coordinate quality assurance related to all studies in the labs, including negotiating prices with vendors, training research staff on use and maintenance of equipment and lab research and safety protocols, and assist with preparations of protocols, grants, and manuscripts. We expect that the Research Operations Associate will aid other research labs within the Division of Tropical Medicine as needs arise and contribute to a high-paced environment with an established team.

Job Duties

  • Initiates purchases of laboratory supplies, equipment, and animals through the purchasing system for studies in BSL-2 and BSL-3 environments, including negotiating prices.
  • Maintains lab equipment and environment.
  • Works independently and in conjunction with others who are part of Tropical Medicine to maintain laboratory orders.
  • Instructs research staff in the proper use and care of equipment and supplies.
  • Coordinates quality assurance and laboratory-specific safety training.
  • Perform routine laboratory procedures to assist in the lab's research by training new users on proper use of equipment and proper laboratory protocols
  • Maintains an accurate, up-to-date, organized, and legible inventory of supplies and maintenance records.
  • Establish schedule and work plan for research projects in conjunction with the PI
  • Assist with regulatory activities, such as managing laboratory shipping permits.
  • Conduct literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format to determine the appropriate equipment and supplies for use in the laboratory.
  • Ensure quality control of laboratory procedures, including test validations, to confirm proper operation of equipment and supplies.
  • Assist with preparing grants, manuscripts, and protocols.
  • Assist with preparation of travel requests and business card purchase management.
  • Evaluate and analyze data. 
  • Supervise laboratory research staff. 
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. 
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with BSL-3 laboratory.
