Job Description Summary:

The Grants and Contracts Accounting Services department is located within the Office of the University Controller at The George Washington University and is responsible for sound financial management of sponsored project funds.

The Grants and Contracts Accounting Associate assists in the monitoring and performing of post award duties to facilitate the submission of financial reports, invoices, and closeout of sponsored project awards. This position performs functions associated with the fiscal administration of assigned portfolio, prepares financial reports and invoices for sponsored project awards including clinical trials, and serves as backup support for the Sponsored Projects Financial Accountant(s).

This position performs functions in managing and completing financial reporting and invoicing sponsored project awards including clinical trials and performs all functions associated with the fiscal administration of assigned portfolio.

This position also serves as backup support for the Sponsored Projects Financial Accountant(s) in performing certain tasks including financial report preparation and invoice submission of financial reports and invoice to external sponsors.

The position supports the team in allocating/testing of cost transfers, performing award setup and modification alert reviews, preparing, and providing invoice backups and filing all documents in the electronic document management system.

Additional responsibilities include running routine accounting and management reports and providing regular cleanup and maintenance of standard issues, including entering routine journal entries on behalf of users.

Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience is preferred. Experience in the grant and contract accounting (i.e. sponsored projects) area also preferred.
Working knowledge with MS Applications, especially MS Excel, Oracle financial software and other enterprise computer applications preferred.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Detail oriented, accurate, and excellent organizational skills and is a team player. Ability to work in a deadline driven environment and simultaneously deliver quality and quantity of work output.
Communicates effectively with employees at all levels as well as internal and external stakeholders.
