Summary

Responsible for overseeing the laboratory information system (LIS), Pathology PACS and other lab systems; and ensuring that they are running efficiently. This Senior Manager is also responsible for managing the IT staff and ensuring that they are properly trained and equipped to handle any issues that may arise. The IT Manager of Lab Systems is also responsible for researching and recommending upgrades and enhancements to lab systems to meet the goals of the Pathology Department and College.

Job Duties

  • Serves as primary liaison between Clinical and Business teams in Pathology and IT.
  • Provides for demand process for IT requests such as enhancements, deployments, upgrades, implementations, reporting, etc. As demand manager, facilitates demand shaping, screening and customer prioritization.
  • Upon approval, develops work break down structures, builds resource plans, assigns work and directs efforts to completion.
  • Reports out status of efforts to IT and Pathology Leadership.
  • Develops strategy based on input from Pathology and informed by environmental scanning, as well as, team input.
  • Creates proposals to meet unique clinical and business requirements.
  • Provides daily supervision and oversight to Pathology IT team.
  • Follows best practices in application support and manages/coaches Pathology IT Team.
  • Ensures support coverage and cross-training of support staff.
  • Coordinates and communicates regarding IT initiatives and collaborates with overall IT Team.
  • Manages cost center and IT spend as required.
  • Manages vendor relationships, deliverables and required service levels.
  • LIS development and support for Orchard LIS and Vital Axis LIS.
  • Device integration, third party integrations and support for LIS related devices.
  • PACS maintenance and support ensuring smooth digital workflows. Interfaces and integrations development and support.
  • Client on-boarding activities to ensure service fulfillment supporting external clients as deemed appropriate.
  • Participates and/or leads architectural design.
  • Develops strong subject matter expertise in digital pathology and commercial lab capabilities.
  • Collaborates with other department managers to assess network growth needs and maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Five years of relevant experience.  

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred.
  • Master’s degree.
  • Proven experience as an IT Manager or application leadership role within the lab or healthcare IT industry is desirable.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills are crucial for collaborating with various stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with troubleshooting strategies to minimize problem resolution time and reduce maintenance costs.
  • Ability to upgrade software when new updates are available.
  • Proficiency in technology trends and the ability to report relevant information to the executive team.
