What Your Job Will Be Like:

Are you passionate about your work? Do you want to join a dynamic team that solves challenging issues? If so, Organization 03731, Occupational Medicine, is currently seeking an experienced Occupational Medicine & Industrial Hygiene Specialist to join their team!

The selected candidate will develop and coordinate programs, policies, and procedures associated with a large variety of occupational medicine (Occ. Med.) programs, including mission-essential qualification-based fitness for duty programs and hazard-based medical monitoring surveillance programs.

One will also develop processes and implementation strategies for Occ. Med. programs in accordance with scientific and best medical practices to protect and advance the health and safety of the workforce. They will operate as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for regulations that dictate operational procedures as well as provide oversight for reporting functions.

On any given day, one may be called upon to:

• Serve as an SME for Occ. Med., exposure assessment, and hazard control; stay up to date on all regulatory changes, making providers and customers aware of changes proactively
• Manage and administer mission-essential regulation-based fitness for duty programs, and hazard-based medical monitoring and surveillance programs, required by the U.S Department of Energy (DOE) and by a variety of regulatory agencies; includes analysis of information, trends, goals, and technical consultation to line organizations
• Conduct N95 fit testing for all clinic staff
• Develop process approaches and implementation strategies for Occ. Med. programs using advance principles from multiple specialized disciplines
• Act as the liaison between medical and lab-wide in house SME’s to report clinical information which seek program specific expertise
• Collaborate on health and safety matters affecting processes in the medical clinic
• Manage the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program, including budget, schedule, and technical oversight
• Maintain liaisons with appropriate regulatory agencies and provide technical oversight of contractors; interface with regulators and surveyors for all onsite Occ. Med. interactions
• Perform quality assurance activities in accordance with established corporate standards and medical practices through audits and self-assessments
• Develop technical reports, operating procedures, and other technical work documents
• Lead programmatic activities and collaborate with physicians, safety professionals, clinical providers, and management on programs that may include the effectiveness of work planning and controls, electronic medical record design, emergency preparedness planning, medical surveillance, occupational exposure assessments, and application and interpretation of various regulatory standards
• Lead Occ. Med. team meetings, educate staff, and serve as a compliance focused expert on the team
• Perform audits, chart reviews against regulations, and operating procedures, and create action plans to maintain continual compliance and focus on improvements across the program

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Qualifications We Require:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, or a related field, plus 5 years related experience
• An active certification as an Industrial Hygienist
• The ability to acquire and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

• A Master’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, or a related field
• Demonstrated experience with occupational medicine surveillance programs, and occupational medicine and health and safety programs (particularly those focused on varied research and development, industrial, and nonindustrial environments)
• Knowledge with the following:
• The principles of occupational medicine, industrial hygiene, and toxicological effects of occupational exposures
• Federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to occupational medicine, industrial hygiene, and safety
• Laboratory requirements and environmental policies, practices, and procedures
• Experience with the following:
• Observing worksite procedures and physical layouts
• Interviewing employees to gather information on operations and on materials and equipment used that may result in illness, impairment, injury, or impact to the health of workers and members of the community
• Methods, procedures, equipment, and techniques used to collect and analyze samples for evaluation of hazards
• Scientific and engineering methods used to evaluate occupational safety practices, operating configuration, and hazard controls
• A well organized and timeline-oriented mindset, and have a compliance and process improvement focus; strong organizational skills
• The ability to analyze and evaluate a large variety of technical data and prepare clear and accurate technical reports, and research and interpret regulations
• The ability to establish and maintain effective teamwork and cooperative working relationships; strong written and verbal communication skills
• The ability to model behaviors that reflect Sandia's core values

About Our Team:

The Occupational Medicine Team is a multi-disciplinary healthcare team that serves to protect the health and safety of Sandia Laboratory workers, ensuring fitness for duty while mitigating risks for the organization.

Posting Duration:

Salary Range:

$78,000 - $150,000

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
