Job Summary:
Reporting to the Exhibition and Collection Project Manager, the Preparator works collaboratively on specialized handling, storage, installation, lighting, and fabrication of mounts and casework for art objects at the Chazen. This position also assists in the design and layout of temporary exhibitions and permanent collection galleries and the related display elements.

Responsibilities:
Assists in preparing, handling, mounting, and installing collections, specimens, and related displays and exhibitions to enhance access, education, and enjoyment.
35% Handles and prepares collections within established policies
30% Supports the installation and maintenance of permanent galleries and traveling exhibitions
30% Assists in fabrication and construction of collection or exhibition related components
5% Assists in maintaining and utilizing specialized equipment related to the work of the section

Qualifications:
Required:
- At least one year of art handling and installation experience in an art museum, art gallery, or professional studio setting.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of professional museum standards for art handling and collection care procedures.
- Experience handling, matting, and framing works on paper in a gallery or museum environment.
- Experience in the fabrication, carpentry, and painting, preferably with archival materials and in art-related applications.
- Valid driver's license required. Incumbents must be able to operate a state vehicle.
- Able to climb ladders, drive and operate aerial lifts, and follow related safety procedures.

Preferred:
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of common materials, tools, and equipment used in the care of art collections.
- Proficiency with the Adobe design suite or similar programs preferred.

Work Schedule:
This is a full-time (40 hours per week) position. Most work will be performed during regular business hours 8:00am-5:00pm with some flexibility on start/end time. Some occasional evening hours may be required to meet installation project deadlines.
