Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director of Prospect Research and Management, the Associate Director of Prospect Research and Management provides key support to inform prospect strategies, collaborating with prospect managers to create and maintain prospect pipeline, providing appropriate analysis and reports to support decision making and systematically track progress. Additionally, the Associate Director of Prospect Research and Management plays a primary role in conducting research, categorizing prospects and donors in terms of interest and capacity, and determines when prospects should be moved to cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship stages. This person will establish respected and trusted role in navigating prospects and donors through the giving pipeline towards annual goals and KPIs.

This position is eligible to work hybrid within the Greater Houston, TX area.

Job Duties

  • Reviews all report requests to determine requirements and complete scoping calls with clients as needed to ensure accuracy of requests.
  • Identifies prospective donors and manages prospects and donor relationships by overseeing the management of the prospect/donor research, prepares reports, evaluates prospects, and ensures prospects are moved through the pipeline from qualification to cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Helps develops improved processes as needed.
  • Plans and organizes meetings with development staff to assign prospects, monitor timely movement through the pipeline, and develop and enhance strategy to convert prospects to donors. Audits, reviews, and corrects actions and opportunities within the Advancement CRM with follow up communication and guidance.
  • Prepares reports containing new activity entries in the Advancement CRM.
  • Takes a proactive coaching role in helping develop strategic donor/prospect interactions, needed research or proposal management.
  • Audits, reviews, and corrects actions and opportunities within Raiser's Edge with follow up communication and guidance to senior leadership and staff.
  • Prepares reports containing new activity entries in Raiser’s Edge and prospect/donor contact information. Takes a proactive coaching role in helping develop strategic donor/prospect interactions, needed research or proposal management in next steps.
  • Reviews and analyzes information to prepare profiles which include elements such as financial assets and indications of wealth, biographical and family information, community involvement and philanthropic interests. When appropriate, provide suggestions/strategies for qualification, cultivation and solicitation of prospects.
  • Adheres to industry coding standards (CASE, AASP, etc.) to track research activity and screened and identified prospects in donor information system to facilitate reporting. Enters research information as needed. 
  • Reviews daily, weekly and monthly publications to uncover timely information about prospects, donors, trustees, board members and others to facilitate in the cultivation of prospects.
  • Partners with leadership to reassess and produce accurate research information in a standardized format for development purposes.
  • Provides individual fund raisers with information, analysis, and visuals regarding fundraising activities, forecasting, portfolio health, metrics and performance. 
  • Works with the fundraising team to develop individual and collective strategies designed to meet giving goals with regard to short-term, mid-term and long-term goals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in non-profit fundraising, including familiarity with moves management strategies and process.
  • Progressively responsible experience in philanthropy research and prospect development.
  • Mastery level technology and database skills with demonstrated proficiency using fundraising information systems, such as Raiser’s Edge, Microsoft Office products and fundraising software tools, including Blackbaud Analytics.
  • Experience in various research tools, including wealth screening tools is highly preferred. 
  • Ability to communicate with technical staff, non-technical staff and a demonstrated understanding of data.
