Summary
The University of Michigans Department of Economics is a large, world-class academic unit within the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. Units within the department include the Michigan Institute for Teaching and Research in Economics (MITRE) and the Research Seminar in Quantitative Economics (RSQE). The Economics Administrative Assistant works closely with other Department staff to provide integral administrative support to department operations. Strong organizational and critical thinking skills as well as attention to detail are vital to success in this position which supports a wide range of activities including:


Academic Affairs: Assist with faculty academic affairs documentation, processes, and recordkeeping. Primary responsibilities will be to assist with the creation and preparation of documents and dossiers for faculty (tenure-track, lecturer, post-doc, and research) hiring, reviews, awards, retirements, and memorials. Assist with visiting faculty hiring and visiting scholar request processing. Assist with onboarding new and visiting faculty and visiting scholars.

Alumni/Donor Relations and Stewardship: Update templates for and produce donor stewardship letters for department gifts on a regular basis. Draft and produce, after approval, specialized donor stewardship letters for special gifts, fundraising events/activities, and tribute/memorial gifts. Assist in determining marketing and promotional needs, and place orders/track inventory. Provide administrative support for MITRE, including assisting the MITRE Director with preparing and disseminating communications and reports. Assist Meeting/Event Coordinator with events, both in planning and on-site support, particularly meetings of the Economics Leadership Council (ELC), the RSQE Economic Outlook Conference, and Department Commencement.

Department Administration and Records: Answer inquiries and provide information to students, faculty, and staff as directed. Create and maintain departmental information files and systems, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of files and information. Assist with data collection and organization for department reports and reviews. Maintain assigned areas of the Department web pages and Portal (intranet) in AEM. Update departmental and programmatic email groups as assigned. Perform miscellaneous tasks as assigned. Assist other staff colleagues with projects or front-office coverage when needed.

Required Qualifications*
At least 2 years of administrative experience or a similar combination of education and experience
Effective professional verbal and written communication skills
Proficiency in standard office technology with a proven ability to learn new information systems when provided training and support
Ability to handle confidential or sensitive materials appropriately
Initiative to gather information and resources needed to complete assignments in a thorough and timely manner
Time management and organizational skills which enable effective prioritization between various tasks while meeting project deadlines
A successful candidate will be invested in supporting a wide range of department processes and will demonstrate the initiative to suggest, develop and enact improvements to our programs and procedures. This person should be adaptable and comfortable with the reasonable level of change that fosters and accompanies our departments success.
