Job Overview
The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Cincinnati (UC) seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Microbiology. The position is open to all areas of microbiology with emphasis on ecological, evolutionary, & molecular aspects of disease transmission of microscopic pathogens (animal- or plant-based bacteria, viruses, or other microbes, including aquatics). This includes research programs that range from lab-based studies, field research, to modeling.



The Department of Biological Sciences is a collaborative research community with foci in Molecular Biology, Genetics, and Physiology (MBGP), Ecology, Evolution, & Conservation (EEC), and Sensory Biology and Behavior (SBB). Within the Department of Biological Sciences there is a growing focus on host-parasite, microbiology & disease dynamics that contribute to UC initiatives in Urban Health, Urban Futures, and the Research 2030 initiative, & increasing interest in Public Health. The Department has strong collaborative associations with the US EPA ORD Research Center, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati Museum Center, Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, and other local institutions that provide opportunities for collaborative research, outreach, and education.



Essential Functions
Developing and maintaining an externally funded, internationally recognized research program in microbiology with emphasis on ecological, evolutionary or molecular aspects in the applicant’s area of expertise.
Contributing to the service mission of the department including but not limited to serving on committees and contributing to the development of novel biology-related programs.
Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in microbiology, cell biology, immunology, and/or virology.
Direct supervision of MS and PhD students, which includes ensuring progress in research and development of dissertation projects.
Minimum Requirements
Prior to effective date of appointment, all of the following:

PhD in biology, microbiology, or closely related field.
One year of postdoctoral or other professional research experience following PhD completion.
