Summary

The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS) and Office of Education Affairs (OEA) seek a Lead, Assessment and Evaluation. This individual provides leadership in collaboratively developing and implementing program evaluation processes and learning and performance assessments, develops assessment tools and processes for assessing the effectiveness of research training programs, creates customized reporting tools to support ongoing curricular and student services improvement, and integrates this information with College-wide and school-specific accreditation processes. This role requires a dynamic individual with a strong background in assessment, education, and leadership, dedicated to advancing the commitment of Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) to academic excellence, robust student support services and continuous quality improvement.

 

This position is eligible to work hybrid after an orientation and training period.

Job Duties

Assessment

  • Provides leadership in collaboratively developing and implementing learning assessment and program improvement processes for a research education curriculum (GSBS).
  • Works closely with directors of institutional training grants in designing learner and program assessments, guiding data collection, management and analyses, in support of training program evaluation (GSBS). Prepares or assists in the preparation of assessment plans and reports.
  • Administers a comprehensive and continual assessment program to evaluate OEA academic and student support services, collaborating with BCM schools to integrate efforts across their specific curricula, and aligning assessment activities with accreditation processes and standards.
  • Develops and reviews formative and summative assessment methods and tools on an ongoing basis.
  • Supervises data collection and provides management essential for robust program evaluation and improvement, including real time as well as longitudinal quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • Analyzes internal and external data sources, disseminates pertinent information among College constituents and stakeholders. 
  • Serves on committees and teams tasked with designing and implementing assessment processes.
  • Provides leadership in the assessment process by communicating the purpose of student outcomes assessment, and by assisting in the development and tracking of assessment plans, selecting appropriate measures, and analyzing and communicating assessment results.

Accreditation

  • Assists, supports and coordinates the reporting of assessment activities, and guides assessment processes and documentation to meet standards and requirements of external accreditors.
  • Conducts ongoing internal review of program evaluation ensuring all accreditation standards are met.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Education Research on the ongoing implementation and improvement of program evaluation and learning assessments, and reporting to various accrediting organizations.

IT

  • Collaborates with teams designing processes and infrastructure for data warehousing and performance outcomes dashboards.
  • Serves as a liaison between information technology specialists and education administrators to ensure progress in data warehousing and performance dashboard projects.
  • Collaborates with IT teams to ensure quality and efficiency in evaluation processes.

Communication

  • Provides oversight and management for program evaluation and learning assessment projects; coaches faculty, staff, and students on appropriate implementation and use of existing and new assessment tools. 
  • Analyzes results and generates reports to be shared with GSBS and OEA Leadership.

Education Scholarship

  • Consults, collaborates and initiates education/research projects.
  • Engages in educational scholarship, applies for grants and produces scholarly presentations and publications.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Six years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • PhD, EdD or similar terminal degree, with significant expertise and experience in collection, analysis and reporting of education data.
  • At least 3 years or prior experience with one or more of the following: data science, data management, statistical analysis, qualitative analysis, text analysis, educational assessment.
  • Demonstrated skill in program evaluation with particular attention to continuous improvement processes and survey development and analysis.
  • Demonstrated skill in implementing student assessments and knowledge regarding assessment construction and validation for research education environments.
  • Demonstrated scholarship with a record of grant achievement and publications in higher education, preferably in research education programs.
  • Demonstrated abilities to work with individuals or teams of educators and institutional leaders to guide implementation and continuous improvement of assessment and evaluation practices.
  • Experience and expertise in evaluation and assessment in research education environments, and experience with regional accreditation organizations such as SACSCOC.
  • Proficiency in teamwork and coordination as part of a dynamic, diverse, collegial team.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Strong sense of focus and attention to detail.
