Position Description
The Director leads management of all scientific research and activities at the Laboratory of Systems Pharmacology Research Services Core at Harvard Medical School.

The Director:
  • Manages LSP Research Services Core staff, including hiring and orientation, training and development, workflow and performance management, and the promotion of an inclusive and innovative work environment
  • Directs LSP Research Services Core activities, including project feasibility, execution and prioritization, laboratory workflows, and core policies
  • Drives technical development and strategic direction of LSP Research Services Core in terms of assay optimization, addition of new methods of detection, data analysis, and data analysis pipeline development
  • Enables scientists at all stages of their research with a variety of proteome and genomic detection methods. This includes reviewing grants, writing letters of support, collaborating on funding applications, as well as providing advice and guidance on assay development and optimization, laboratory automation, data analysis and annotation, and follow up experiments
  • Oversees LSP Research Services Core administrative policies, including access, grant oversight, billing, budget management, and rate setting
  • Develops cross-functional teams, both within Harvard Medical School and externally, to successfully execute LSP Research Services Core’s vision and grant aims
  • Represents LSP Research Services Core via scientific publications and presentations at the local, national and international level via teaching and invited lectures in regards to best practices as appropriate
Basic Qualifications
  • PhD in in a related scientific discipline
  • Minimum of eight years’ relevant work experience
Working Conditions
  • May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens, primary tissue, cell lines or infectious materials
  • May work in a research environment where animals are present
  • May be exposed to toxic, radioactive, or carcinogenic materials including compressed gases, acids, solvents, vacuum pump oils, and other chemicals
  • May be required to work nights and weekends
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • Candidate shall have excellent communication skills (verbal and written), attention to detail, and enthusiasm for basic and translational research.
  • Candidate must be extremely organized, capable of multitasking and have strong computer skills.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining collaborative relationships amongst different groups (academic, industry, funding agency) is desired.
  • The ideal candidate will be able to support multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize core activities appropriately to meet grant and service center milestones.
  • Previous experience in overseeing operating budgets >$1M is preferred.
Additional Information
Please note this is a part-time, 20 hours (.5 FTE) per week position.

This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.
