The Communication Department seeks to hire a per-course faculty member to teach Comm 370, Group Facilitation and Leadership, in the Summer of 2024 in the Communication Program. This course will be taught online.

Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 6:00pm - 8:30pm

Class meets the weeks of July 12, July 22, August 5, and August 12.

Course Description

This course focuses on the development of group facilitation and critical thinking skills for making ethical decisions in various multicultural settings. Topics covered in this course include leadership and communication theories of power and interpersonal dynamic in teams and groups, listening abilities and perspective-taking, practical discussion facilitation skill building, and understanding organizational structure and decision-making processes. This course is cross listed as a course in the Master's Program (COMM 570). The Master of Arts in Communication focuses on applied learning, and thus this course should include substantial learning experiences where students apply theoretical and conceptual knowledge to professional contexts.

Salary: $9,929 - $13,744 depending on qualifications.

The salary range for this position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.


Qualifications:
Candidates should have a graduate degree (PhD or equivalent preferred) in Communication or related field with evidenced teaching experience (preferably in a graduate program). The position requires a familiarity with and commitment to the Communication field, student-centered teaching, and a liberal arts education, as well as an appreciation of and respect for the social justice oriented learning/teaching environment St. Mary's fosters as a Lasallian educational institution. Professional experience working in an intercultural setting is desired, and extensive experience may be considered in lieu of a terminal degree.
