The College of Science and Mathematics, Physics and Biophysics department at Augusta University (AU), responding to enrollment growth in recent years, is actively seeking multiple candidates at the rank of Assistant Professor, anticipating beginning in the Fall of 2024. Primary duties include teaching but also include both service and scholarly activity components. Teaching responsibilities include lecture and/or lab courses within the undergraduate degree program in Physics and core science courses for both science and non-science majors. One of the positions may also include coordination of introductory laboratory activities as one of the workload components. The selected faculty member will be expected to participate in service activities supporting the department, college, university, and/or profession. These positions are not considered to be on tenure track.

Responsibilities

Teaching

Teach Physics and/or Astronomy lectures and laboratory courses, with possibility of laboratory supervision. Other core courses may be considered.

Service

Participate in service activities supporting the department, college, university, and/or profession.

Scholarly Activity

Depending on the position, some portion of the workload may be assigned for research activities.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy/Astrophysics, or closely related degrees.

Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;

- Evidence of ability as a teacher;

- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;

- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,

- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter and yearly contract.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0.

Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
