Summary

Reporting to the Vice President for Advancement Services, the Senior Executive Director provides strategic leadership for Baylor College of Medicine’s institution-wide comprehensive donor relations and stewardship program as well as fundraising infrastructure. This role also will serve as a key partner to colleagues in Advancement to utilize data and analytics to drive fundraising success. The Senior Executive Director leads four essential teams – Database Operations and Analytics; Gift Operations; Prospect Research and Management; and Donor Relations and Stewardship - to create and sustain a customer-service oriented and donor-centric Advancement operation and experience.

 

Internal title is Executive Director, Development; working title is Senior Executive Director Philanthropic Operations

 

This position is eligible for an annual performance-based bonus. 

Job Duties

  • Serves as a senior member of the Advancement Services and Alumni Affairs leadership group.
  • Provides strategic leadership of a multi-year, systematic and integrated donor relations and stewardship program that encompasses acknowledgement processes, donor reporting, stewardship strategies for all giving levels, donor recognition systems and stewardship events, ultimately increasing the likelihood of continued or increased giving.
  • Oversees the planning and evaluation of the technology infrastructure necessary to promote and sustain development, marketing, and alumni relations activities.
  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive program for data management and is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of short and long-term strategic planning initiatives to improve and/or enhance products and services provided, and to ensure the quality and timeliness of data.
  • Ensures the timely and accurate data entry of gifts and/or biographical information, including gift coding, fund compliance, as well as compliance with IRS regulations of gift substantiation, CASE guidelines as well as BCM policies and procedures.
  • Provides direction and support to Gift Operations team, including evaluating current business practices and resources and optimizing performance for fundraising and campaign success.
  • Provides oversight of the Prospect Research and Management team, which includes management of proactive and reactive research on individuals, corporations and foundations as well as moves management. Oversees policies and procedures to effective fundraising management and ensure accurate data and reporting.
  • Provides direction and support to Database Operations and Analytics team; drive the generation of guidelines and systems for best-practice utilization of advanced data analysis and reporting tools. Ensure that data requests and reporting needs are met with timely, consistent and accurate provision of information.
  • Provides oversight and on-site expertise for fundraising data management system, currently Raiser’s Edge NXT.
  • Effectively lead a cohesive and collaborative team capable of achieving identified goals and objectives.
  • Establishes performance expectations and monitors individual and team performance regularly

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Fifteen years of directly related experience with five years of supervisory experience.
     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree and eleven years of directly related experience with five years of supervisory experience will also be considered.
  • At least 6 years experience working with a complex relationship database management system.
  • Academic medicine, high education, and fundraising experience.
  • Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Required for completely satisfactory performance in this job is a broad knowledge of fundraising and alumni relations, especially in the area of major gifts cultivation, is preferred; deep understanding of the fundraising process from acquisition through the pipeline to major gift, and into stewardship; strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple complex projects simultaneously, the ability to work with a wide variety of personalities, and the ability to effectively plan, set goals, execute tactics and drive for results to meet goals.
  • Demonstrated management and leadership experience, preferably in higher education and/or healthcare advancement.
  • Critical thinker with proven analytical abilities, strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to delegate and manage numerous projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to motivate, build long-term relationships with internal and external constituents.
  • Must be a team player and collaborative contributor.
  • Experience with Blackbaud products.
