The Department of Computer Science in the College of Engineering at Texas Tech University (TTU) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month Assistant Professor of Practice in Computer Science position to begin in Fall 2024.

About the College

The College of Engineering was founded in 1925 as one of the original academic areas when Texas Tech opened in 1923. The Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering offers nine engineering bachelor’s programs and one master’s level program accredited by the EAC of ABET, and one computer science program accredited by CAC of ABET. The college offers 12 additional master's, and 8 doctoral degree programs. The college has 4679 undergraduate and 1550 graduate students and 158 full-time faculty members. Total restricted research expenditures in 2022 fiscal year were $17.9M. The college awarded 875 BS, 446 MS and 59 PhD degrees in the 2022-23 academic year. About the Department/School/Area

The Department of Computer Science offers four degree programs, including Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Master of Science in Computer Science, Master of Science in Software & Security Engineering, and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science. As of Fall 2023, the department has 347 undergraduate major students and 731 graduate students, including 660 Masters and 71 PhD students. Major/Essential Functions

At Texas Tech University, the Professor of Practice title is used to recruit individuals with exceptional backgrounds and achievements in academic, business, government, or other professional practice. Primary responsibilities normally will be to teach in an area of expertise, mentor students in professional and career preparation, and liaise with professional contacts and entities on behalf of the department or program.

Faculty Qualifications

In line with TTU’s strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.
Applicants must have a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or related fields by the time of appointment;
Applicants must be able to teach undergraduate and graduate core and elective courses in Computer Science;
Applicants must be willing to mentor students in professional and career preparation and contribute to department extra-curricular activities.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
Applicants with a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or related fields;
Applicants with one or more years of teaching or industry experience;
Applicants with outreach and program-building experience.
