The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Augusta University seeks a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor who will hold an administrative post of Core Facility Manager for the Chemical and Biomolecular Analysis Facility. The position is a 12-month, full-time non-tenure-track Assistant Professor position with an expected start date of January 2024 but has the flexibility to begin earlier or later. The facility maintains a number of Mass spectrometry, spectroscopic, and chromatographic instruments that may be for self-use by the researcher or a service of the facility.

Responsibilities

Teaching - 20%
Teach selected lectures to undergraduate and graduate students on topics related to expertise including instrumental analysis and analytical chemistry. Provide training on operation of facility instruments to users.

Scholarship - 30%
Collaborate with researchers to design experiments and investigations, collect and analyze data, develop methods, publish results, and co-author grants.

Service - 50%
Manage Chemical and Biomolecular Analysis Facility including instrument maintenance (such as cryogen fills on NMR and other routine maintenance), troubleshooting of problems with instrument operation or performance, scheduling, training, sample preparation, data acquisition, and assistance to users. Prepare periodic reports related to billing, utilization, and budget. Promote and develop facility to better serve analysis needs.

Required Qualifications

Doctorate in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or related field

Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Postdoctoral experience, teaching experience, grant writing experience

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
