Job Description

The Straub lab in the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology is seeking a full-time Laboratory Manager III to work on mouse model projects geared towards understanding microcirculation. This Laboratory Manager III will be responsible for managing the mouse colony including husbandry and genotyping. Must have extensive experience with animal handling and all other common procedures such as injections, oral gavage, and dissection. Extensive experience with survival surgeries and microsurgery required. Position will require excellent fine motor skills for microdissection of smallmouse vasculature for pressure myography. Experience with DSI and DMT equipment preferred. Candidate will also be responsible for highly specialized surgeries such as transverse aortic constriction, kidney clip, pulmonary artery banding, hind limb ischemia, PV loops, cardiac MI/IR, and telemetry implantation. Non-invasive imaging techniques such as MRI and Echocardiograms. Data analysis and preparation of graphs, tables, and charts to document experimental results along with manuscript preparation. This Laboratory Manager III will also assist with general lab organization, maintenance, and regulatory compliance. Candidate must be detail oriented with excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work in a team and coordinate collaborations. In addition to independent projects, candidate will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing trainee animal work. A Bachelor's degree in biology or other basic science is required, Master's degree preferred.

Job Summary
Directs day-to-day laboratory operations while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and best practices. Works with, adapts, and installs scientific equipment in research laboratories. Develops moderately complex projects and procedures independently. Manages inventory and equipment and performs budget functions. Collaborates to write grant applications and manuscripts.

Essential Functions
Performs a variety of mouse model laboratory experiments and subsequent analysis under the supervision of the principal investigator
Oversees mouse colony and associated genotyping
Operate and properly maintain specialized equipment
Report results to the principal investigator
Maintain records of procedures and experiments conducted
Physical Effort
Requires some bending, stooping, and stretching. Walking around laboratory benches and various common laboratory rooms within the Division. The incumbent will use stairs often and may have to make multiple trips between the laboratory space and the animal facility pushing carts of supplies. Requires a range of hearing and eyesight that will allow candidate to perform experiments and record, prepare, and communicate laboratory methods and results. Requires lifting up to 20 lbs.
