The dean of the College of Nursing will be a visionary and seasoned leader, dedicated to stewarding significant growth in enrollment, curricula, scholarship, and community engagement. The dean is the chief administrative and academic officer of the college. They are responsible for the college's teaching, research, and service mission. While overseeing the college's operations, policies, and procedures, the new dean will provide strategic direction, set priorities for resource allocation, and work to generate new funding to support future growth. Reporting to the provost, the dean helps to ensure that Augusta University achieves the key objectives of the university's strategic plan. The dean is the chief advocate for the college, representing the College of Nursing within the university, the broader community, and external and community partners.

In addition, the dean candidate will need to possess the following:

Demonstrated executive leadership experience at a research university or within a similar complex organization with a preference for experience managing personnel across different campuses/sites;

Experience in developing and implementing a strategic plan that aligns with and contributes to the university's strategic plan;

A collegial leader who can effectively bring people together to develop a shared vision for the College of Nursing;

Capacity to foster a positive and productive work environment characterized by academic excellence in teaching, research, and service while promoting faculty engagement with the external community;

Demonstrated track record of recruiting and retaining faculty and staff;

Evidence of a participatory leadership style, a track record of facilitating interdisciplinary and cross-campus collaboration, and an ability to take decisive action when necessary;

Knowledge of CCNE and all other accrediting standards pertinent to the college and an ability to interpret and implement applicable standards of accrediting bodies;

Demonstrated record of success at attracting and retaining underrepresented faculty, students, and staff, while also displaying strong support for belonging and well-being;

Demonstrated understanding and track record of fundraising and engagement with external and community partners;

Ability to manage financial, capital, and human resources and to make strategic budgetary and operational decisions;

An understanding of how legislative policies will impact nursing education and the ability to advocate for policy at the local, state, and national levels;

A visible and approachable leader with the ability to establish a strong and positive culture within the college;

Record of promoting student success through active recruitment, retention, and graduation;

An advocate for faculty, staff, and students who possess high emotional intelligence;

Desire and capacity to manage change and a high tolerance for ambiguity;

A vigorous work ethic, sound judgment, and unimpeachable integrity; and

Strong interpersonal and communication skills and political adeptness to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and campus administration.





Responsibilities

The next dean of the College of Nursing will be expected to perform the following functions:

Articulate a compelling vision and align the college strategic plan with institutional plans and priorities;

Represent the College of Nursing and Augusta University in its external relations with alums; donors; the community, state, and national organizations; and other relevant professional bodies;

Provide leadership in fundraising, revenue generation, external grant acquisitions, and resource allocation to support the college's aspirations and priorities;

Commit to the recruitment, retention, and mentoring of faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds;

Develop and implement entrepreneurial and innovation-related initiatives to foster collaboration, curriculum, and programs with external and community-based partners and enhance the reputation of Augusta University as a producer of qualified and caring nurses in the regional community and beyond;

Develop and implement effective recruitment and retention measures for faculty;

Strengthen existing and emphasize interdisciplinary research and scholarship to promote excellence in education and scholarship;

Develop and implement strategies to create innovative and market-driven academic programs aimed at increasing on-campus and online undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral student enrollment;

Create and advocate for nursing policies at the local, state, and federal levels;

Effectively promote student recruitment and retention, as well as career development for alums;

Prepare and analyze budgets for the college in conjunction with university administrators and faculty leadership at the college;

Administer and oversee all financial operations of the college to ensure that funding priorities align with near- and long-term strategic objectives;

Represent the college in its internal relations with administration and with other colleges and units within Augusta University;

Ensure a highly engaging and rewarding student experience and implement strategies to facilitate student success.

Required Qualifications

The candidate will bring a record of distinguished academic leadership, research/scholarship, teaching, and/or experience in a hospital or clinical setting. An earned doctoral degree and academic credentials for earning tenure at least at the Associate Professor level are required for this position.

Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)s requirements for institutional accreditation;

Evidence of ability as a teacher;

Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;

Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,

Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

A Ph.D. or DNP, relevant academic administrative experience, and a record of scholarly achievement commensurate with an appointment at the rank of Professor at Augusta University are preferred.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

College/Department Information

The College of Nursing offers courses at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. The College also offers post-graduate certificate programs for working professionals. Students pursuing their undergraduate degree in nursing can choose a BSN or accelerated BSN path. Graduates of the BSN and ABSN programs are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN to obtain the professional state license, Registered Nurse (RN). The BSN 1st time pass rate for 2023 is 96.45 percent. Graduates of the College of Nursing may take the exam for a Registered Nurse license in the 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and four U.S. territories: American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, and the Virgin Islands.
