What Your Job Will Be Like: We are seeking a R&D General Technologist to join our team supporting a range of projects related to our national security missions. The primary responsibility of this individual will be working closely with a team of scientists and engineers to manage materials' synthesis and processing and documentation updates. The outcome of your work will directly impact Sandia’s ability to design, build, test, and deploy new hardware for Nuclear Deterrent and other national security programs. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Collaborate across Sandia and other NNSA sites to manage projects and data + Collaborate with technical mentor to plan, design, set-up, and perform experiments/projects + Prepare and track documentation packets for material specification updates needed for production of hardware + Interface with engineers and scientists, stakeholders, and external partners to provide status and schedule updates on new or legacy material specifications + Work with a team to review material property data and understand data storage needs + Develop, test, and validate importers for uploading materials property data to a materials property database + Use your knowledge of materials science/engineering to help experimentalists develop and manage data acquisition + Record experimental procedures and collect data in notebooks + Interpret data using spreadsheets, graphs and statistical analysis + Document and present results to mentor and peers + Maintain Lab equipment and documentation Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. Qualifications We Require: + Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) field plus 2 or more years of experience post degree, or equivalent combination of science and engineering education and/or experience + Experience in fiber reinforced composite, nanocomposite, composite, chemical, or molecular synthesis/manufacturing + Experience in mechanical, stress, or basic energy (X-ray, UV-Vis, or IR) materials characterization + Able to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance Qualifications We Desire: + Commitment to safety and continuous improvement + Experience working collaboratively in team settings + Experience with pressure systems (pressurized gas delivery, regulation, safety) + Experience and basic chemistry, material science, industrial laboratory skills + Effective interpersonal and oral/written communication skills + Experience in and/or ability to organize tasks to enable work on multiple projects simultaneously + Detail-oriented mindset + Ability and desire to work independently + Outstanding work habits and self-motivation + Interest in learning more about coordination/material chemistry of periodic table + Strong commitment to customer satisfaction, quality, safety, collaboration, and teamwork + Ability to work with various levels of science and engineering students, postdocs, and technologist About Our Team: The Advanced Materials Laboratory (AML) is a department within the Material, Physical, and Chemical Sciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories and is co-located at the University of New Mexico campus in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The AML conducts research and development to meet a wide range of specialized applications for national security, energy/climate, and nuclear deterrence enabled through partnerships with government, industry, and academic institutions. Technical expertise and focus in the AML is applied to fundamental chemistry of organic and inorganic synthesis, material processing for property-performance optimization, proto-type design engineering for structural-electronic functionality, with an emphasis on expanding autonomous material discovery and informed design enabled by machine learning. The department specializes in advanced manufacturing with an emphasis on defining the boundaries between materials science and process engineering to optimize property performance. Technical capabilities within the department include fiber reinforced composite and nanocomposite manufacturing; chemical, resin, and ink synthesis; additive manufacturing, including Direct Ink Write, Polymer Selective Laser Sintering, Vat Polymerization, Multiphoton Lithography, 3D/structural printed electronics; and rapid cable and connectors prototyping design engineering. Security Clearance:

Position Information: This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years. Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
