The Campus Assistant Dean for Student Affairs oversees the student affairs at Augusta University-Medical College of Georgia and Georgia Southern University (AU/MCG-GS Savannah Partnership) in Savannah, Georgia. The Campus Assistant Dean is appointed to the faculty with an academic appointment in an appropriate department in the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University (AU) with rank appointed at the time of hire commensurate with education and experience. The Campus Assistant Dean reports to the Campus Dean of the AU/MCG-GS Savannah Partnership.

The Campus Assistant Dean for Student Affairs is responsible for the advising (career, academic), learning environment (health services, disability accommodations, etc.), safety (physical, emotional), and service learning experiences (community-based, affiliation groups) of the AU/MCG-GS Savannah Partnership student population. This position is not on tenure track.


Responsibilities

- Promote an academic environment that fosters scholarly conduct of research, teaching and clinical care.
-Coordinate the Match process for AU/MCG-GS Savannah Partnership students. This includes meeting with each student individually to prepare curriculum vitae's, personal statements, and Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE). Collaborate with the Office of Student Affairs for collecting and transmitting transcripts, letters of recommendations, MSPEs, etc. for each student participating in the Match. For students who do not match, the Office of Student Affairs oversees the secondary match for unmatched students.
-Collaborate with Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Class Deans at the Augusta Campus on the following major events at the Medical College of Georgia: Orientation for all MD class years, White Coat ceremony, Match Day ceremony, Cords and Awards, and Hooding ceremony.
-Counsel AU/MCG-GS Savannah Partnership medical students for personal issues, professionalism matters, disciplinary matters, etc.
-Collaborate with Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Assistant Dean for Academic Advising and Assistant Dean for Career Advising to be responsible for an effective advisement system (i.e., academic, career) for AU/MCG-GS Savannah Partnership students enrolled in all phases of the MCG MD curriculum.
-Provide data and information for all accreditation reviews and participate in site visits representing the AU/MCG-GS Savannah Partnership student affairs.
-Assure compliance with all LCME standards relevant to student affairs.
-Work with the Associate Dean of Learner Belonging and Inclusivity to support and contribute to a comprehensive MCG Diversity Plan for AU/MCG-GS Savannah Partnership to include goals, policies, and practices as they relate to administrators, faculty, department chairs, fellow, residents, staff, and students.
-Work with the Office of Student Well-being in support of medical student health, wellness, resilience, etc.,
-Serve as resource to prospective students and to faculty members for student research programs, clinical experiences, and mentoring.
-Provide visible presence of MCG at relevant community and national events to include AAMC.
-Other responsibilities as defined or modified by the Campus Dean.


Required Qualifications

An MD or MD/PhD is required, with proven leadership in medical education, scholarly accomplishments, and nationally recognized in their respective field as evidenced by involvement in academic societies at a national level.

Minimum five years of experience in an academic setting.

Assistant Professor - Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training

Associate Professor - Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Professor - Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

-Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)/s requirements for institutional accreditation;

-Evidence of ability as a teacher;

-Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;

-Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,

-Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
