The Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University seeks a Campus Assistant Dean for Experiential Learning. The primary function of the Assistant Dean of Experiential Learning is to further the mission and vision of the Medical College of Georgia, Savannah campus, by promoting experiential learning as an educational tool to enhance clinical reasoning and foster lifelong learning integrating basic science concepts with hands on learning experiences. The Assistant Dean of Experiential Learning is a key member of the Savannah campus leadership team, reporting to the Associate Dean of Experiential Learning and Savannah Campus Dean. This position is an administrative faculty with rank position, and the rank will be determined at the time of hire.

The Assistant Dean of Experiential Learning will serve as part of the Experiential Learning leadership team to create innovative pedagogies focused on the implementation of experiential learning as a platform for delivering the undergraduate medical education (UME) curriculum by promoting active educational experiences at facilitate the integration of formal knowledge in the clinical area. This position is not considered on tenure track.

Responsibilities

Assist and advise the Associate Dean of Experiential Learning in collaborating with the Associate Dean for Curriculum to develop optimal strategies for using experiential learning to deliver relevant components of the curriculum.

Assist and advise the Associate Dean of Experiential Learning with the development, maintenance, and implementation of new experiential educational innovations through collaboration with the Assistant Dean of Ultrasound, Assistant Dean of Education Simulation, and faculty across the University to integrate ultrasound as a component of curricular activities and other experiential education activities.

Attend experiential education leadership meetings and committee meetings.

Assist with faculty training and faculty development needs in experiential education in conjunction with the Associate Dean of Experiential learning.

Develop strategies and advise the Associate Dean for Experiential Learning on ways to strengthen existing academic programs while exploring innovative multidisciplinary programs for experiential learning, increasing the impact and extending the reach of MCG excellence across the continuum of medical education and throughout the State of Georgia.

Explore and provide peers and organizational leadership with high-impact opportunities for innovation through experiential education.

Work collaboratively with the Savannah campus Business Manager and Associate Dean of Experiential Learning, to ensure that faculty & staff achieve success within their unit and/or from other academic departments are:

a) supported (through budgets)

b) committed (to the educational mission) and

c)engaged (through continuous professional development).

Provide metrics and required reports for OAA, MCG and accrediting organizations.

Manage the day-to-day functions and operations of Experiential Savannah campus bedsides clinical procedures, clinical experience, ultrasound,simulation and standardized patients},liaisingclosely with the Associate Dean for Experiential learning.

Assist in the management of the Savannah campus Simulation Center including working closely with faculty to develop and Implement enhancements to simulation and clinical skills curricularactivities to ensure exceptional education for MCG medicalstudents and otherlearners.

Assume direct oversight of the activities of the Savannah campus Simulation Program in partnership with the Savannah Campus Dean.

Liaise with the Associate Dean of Curriculum to support the regular evaluation of faculty teaching and assessment of student performance in the M.D. curriculum, to ensure meaningful, continuous quality Improvements to Instructional programming, with careful consideration of related LCME standards and elements.

Required Qualifications

M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree

Advanced training or experience in the application of point-of-care-ultrasound and/or medical simulation

Extensive experience teaching students, residents, and fellows in experiential learning skills

Advanced training/degree such as board certification

Experience in medical education administration/educational leadership positions

Strong organizational and managerial skills

Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively & work with members of the academic& clinical community

Strong service orientation and commitment to teamwork

Demonstrated knowledge and skills in Interpersonal and group communication that reflect a commitment to cultural diversity

Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training

Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

-Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;

-Evidence of ability as a teacher;

-Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;

-Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,

-Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
