Job Description

Summary

The selected individual will perform functional experiments with patient-derived models (in vitro and in vivo) of brain tumors and supervise the activities of trainees and other staff in the lab. This position will have a key role in advancing the research priorities of the Gallo lab by coordinating experimental activities among lab members and complementing expertise in select areas, particularly as in relation to preclinical work in mice. This position will therefore require strong experimental and mentoring skills and expertise.

Job Duties

  • Independently plans, directs and conducts research experiments in accordance to overall project trajectory.
  • Generates patient-derived models from surgical specimens (cultures and xenografts).
  • Trains, supervises, and mentors less experienced lab members.
  • Independently evaluates, processes, and analyzes experiment data.
  • Presents data to the PI and group meetings.
  • Conducts literature reviews and summarizes information in an appropriate format for the PI and team.
  • Contributes to paper, protocol, and grant development.
  • Orders lab supplies and manages lab inventory.
  • Drafts standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the lab.
  • Generates professional-grade figures and graphics.
  • Maintains lab database of patient-derived models.
  • Conducts experiments with patient-derived models of brain tumors, both in vitro and orthotopically in vivo.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. 
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Knowledgeable of the literature in the field
  • Familiarity with preclinical work in mice
