Overview
The purpose of the Home and Communities Extension Program and Communications Coordinator position is to play a major role in the development and leadership of the newly formed Home and Communities Extension Department statewide. This Program and Communications Coordinator position (Program Coordinator II) is responsible to plan and coordinate the day-to-day fiscal, administrative, and operational activities of Home and Communities Extension.



The Home and Communities (H&C) Extension Department headquarters may be located in either Cache and/or Box Elder counties. This position located at the USU H&C Extension Director’s Office at Utah State University College of Agricultural Sciences. The H&C Extension Department consists of County Extension Faculty with Family and Consumer Sciences, Health and Wellness, HEART (Health, Extension, Advocacy, Research and Teaching) Initiative, ROI (Rural Online Initiative) and Economic Development assignments statewide. There are approximately 35 faculty within this Department and these faculty are housed in County Extension offices in 28 counties.



This full time (salary) position has a regular schedule of Monday-Friday; however, some overnight travel, evening, and weekend work may be required. Ability to travel as required – Must have access to transportation. Job offer contingent upon successfully passed background check.



This position reports to the Director of Home and Communities Extension/State Program Leader of Family and Consumer Sciences.



This position classification may train and direct hourly/student employees, and/or volunteers.

Responsibilities
Designs, coordinates, and implements the aspects of Extension Family and Consumer Sciences, Health and Wellness, HEART (Health, Extension, Advocacy, Research and Teaching), ROI (Rural Online Initiative) Community Development and other programs, within the Home and Communities Extension Department.
Serves as a principal liaison between faculty, staff, other departments, and/or external constituencies.
Facilitates seminars, meetings, and special projects.
Coordinates activities of support staff, faculty, and/or volunteers engaged in implementation and administration of program objectives.
Monitors and administers program revenues and expenses; may develop or participate in the development of funding proposals for the program.
Writes, edits, and coordinates development of course catalogs, promotional materials, educational materials, training manuals, newsletters, and/or brochures, as appropriate to the program.
Collects and analyzes data; prepares scheduled and special reports; maintains program records and statistical information.
Ensures completion of clerical and administrative support tasks, including creation, typing, and editing of program correspondence, purchasing documents, reports, program handbooks, and other publications.
Writes and/or assists with writing grants and proposals as appropriate to the objectives and funding nature of the program; may participate in other fundraising activities.
Maintains and creates content for program website.
Coordinates/manages social media and websites for the Home and Communities Extension in partnership with the Extension Marketing team.
Coordinates online courses related to Home and Communities including the marketing research, course development, and marketing the completed course in partnership with the Extension Marketing team.
Performs specialized activities of a programmatic nature in direct support of the accomplishment of program objectives and protocol.
Coordinates faculty search committees and interview meetings for Home and Communities Extension.
Assists with helping faculty to participate in Fast Track review (USU Extension’s publication on-line peer review system) in partnership with the Extension Marketing team.
Trains and directs lower level staff, student employees, and volunteers.
Contributes to business and operational decisions that affect the department.
Teaches or leads seminars, classes, and/or workshops.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a Family and Consumer Sciences discipline, Extension Education, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Community Development, or related area, plus two years relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of principles and practices related to programs within Home and Communities (Family and Consumers Sciences, Health and Wellness, Community Development, etc).
Knowledge of research and information gathering methods and procedures.
Knowledge of grant development, implementation, budgeting, fiscal control, and reporting.
Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
Ability to coordinate and organize meetings and/or special events.
Skilled in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
Skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
Skilled at records maintenance.
Ability to lead and train staff and/or students.
Ability to interact with students, faculty and/or staff in a team environment.
Knowledge of communication principles, media, and marketing techniques.
Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports.
Program specific knowledge, skills, and abilities as described in recruitment notices.
Ability to exercise a high level of creativity, decision making, problem solving, and discretion as work is varied and may be undefined.
