Job Description

The newly established Sensory-Perception Laboratory at the University of Utah is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to help build and run research projects in the lab starting in January 2024.

The lab’s focus is on cortical mechanisms underlying the construction of conscious percepts based on accumulation of sensory evidence in the visual system. Primary methods include electrophysiology, optogenetics, imaging, behavioral training and measurement of psychophysical thresholds, computational modeling, advanced statistical analysis, anatomical tracing and histology, and both human and animal models including non-human primates. In addition, the lab is interested in understanding how disruptions of the visual system through aging, disease, or damage, particularly of the eye and retina, impact the function of those cortical mechanisms underlying perception. The Postdoctoral Researcher will run research projects related to the primary research goals of the lab, assist in the training and mentorship of junior lab personnel, apply for fellowships and grant funding, present at research conferences, write manuscripts for publication in academic journals, and help coordinate the day to day functions of the lab.

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a doctoral degree in neuroscience or related field. Expertise in electrophysiological recordings of the brain, programming in Matlab, advanced statistical analysis, and scientific writing are necessary. Experience with animal models of the visual system is preferred. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of receiving funding awards and publications in academic journals.
