The Augusta University/University of Georgia (AU/UGA) Medical Partnership, a regional campus of the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University (AU) located in Athens, GA, is seeking a Campus Associate Dean for Student Affairs. The Campus Associate Dean for Student Affairs is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and oversight of all student affairs at the AU/UGA Medical Partnership, including career and academic advising, student interest groups, and para-curricular activities. The role supports bolstering the recruitment and matriculation of highly sought-after diverse applicants and contributes to students' retention and graduation from medical school.
The Campus Associate Dean for Student Affairs reports to the Campus Dean at the AU/UGA Medical Partnership and works collaboratively with other campus leadership and faculty, the MCG Office of Student Affairs at the main campus in Augusta, GA, as well as the UGA Office of Student Affairs to support a diverse and inclusive environment for students and be a champion for diversity, equity, and inclusion. They are expected to devote particular attention to the experiences of all students both inside the classroom and extracurricular, including academic advising and serving as a student advocate and resource.
Responsibilities
Some specific responsibilities include:
Student Advising/Support:
  • Bi-annual, one-on-one meetings with first through fourth year medical students and provide academic, career, and personal guidance
  • Work collaboratively with the AU/UGA Medical Partnership's Academic Success Program to ensure full academic support for all medical students
  • Oversee career advising programming, including guiding students through specialty choice and the ERAS and NRMP application processes
  • Assist medical students in securing residency programs
  • Serve as student support and liaison to the MCG faculty senate promotions and professionalism committee
  • Serve as a member of the Academic Progress and Professionalism Team (APPT), providing one-on-one mentorship and support for students with academic and/or professional challenges
  • Serve as campus lead for all student leaves of absence, including for dual-degree programs
  • Serve as campus liaison to AU Testing and Disability Services, as well as the UGA Regents' Center for Learning Disorders

Student Wellness:
  • Work collaboratively with the AU/UGA Medical Partnership's Office of Personalized Health and Wellbeing and other initiatives to ensure and promote medical student wellness
  • Ensure mistreatment awareness, reporting mechanisms, and mitigation policies and procedures as an active participant in achieving a positive learning environment
  • Serve as campus liaison to AU Title IX Office
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and funding of the AU/UGA Medical Partnership Student Interest Groups
  • Serve as campus liaison to the UGA University Health Center, including UGA Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS)

Student Recruitment:
  • Attend and participate in AU/UGA Medical Partnership Admissions Open Houses
  • Participate as a mentor for the Foothills AHEC Pathway to Medical School Program

Events:
  • Assist with planning and implementation of student related events
  • Oversee the implementation and execution of the AU/UGA Medical Partnership's annual Match Day event
  • Organize and oversee the yearly AU/UGA Medical Partnership M1 Orientation
  • Work collaboratively with MCG colleagues on implementation of events, such as the annual White Coat and Hooding ceremonies

Leadership:
  • Participate on the AU/UGA Medical Partnership's Senior Leadership Team
  • Lead an office whose goal is wrap-around support of medical students
  • Provide support for the AU/UGA Medical Partnership Student Government and Honor Council

Other:
  • Contribute to the teaching, scholarship, and service needs of the AU/UGA Medical Partnership where appropriate

Required Qualifications
  • MD, PhD, or EdD
  • Board certification by the American Board of Medical Specialties (when appropriate)
  • Ability to obtain an unrestricted medical license in the state of Georgia and to obtain appropriate hospital credentials and privileges (when appropriate)
  • Ability to obtain an unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration license (when appropriate)
  • A minimum of five years' experience in academic medicine administration, for example a previous role as assistant/associate dean, course director, residency director, clerkship director or academic advisor/mentor for medical students
  • Extensive knowledge of NRMP, ERAS, MSPE, and LCME guidelines and requirements
  • Knowledge of current residency program requirements for successful matching
  • History of successful supervisory and management experience

Minimum qualification for each rank is provided below:
Assistant Professor - Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training
Associate Professor - Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience
Professor - Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Minimum faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

Assistant Professor - Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements.
Associate Professor - Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements.
