Co-Director, Leeds Institute of Data Analytics

Secondment Role - 20% FTE Buy out of time from your substantive post.

This role is only open to internal applicants employed at the University of Leeds holding a professorial post.  

Are you a highly motivated, leading academic with an established reputation in data science and/or Artificial (AI)? Do you have significant senior multi – disciplinary leadership experience, with a clear vision for collaborative research, education and training excellence and the ability to inspire and engage others in that vision? Do you have evidence of success in building influence and partnerships at all levels, internally and externally, to deliver change and social impact?

LIDA’s Co - Director will provide multi – disciplinary academic leadership for LIDA, a leading national and international data science and AI Institute, delivering exceptional academic research, education and training.

In partnership with LIDA’s other Co-Director, you will provide strategic leadership of LIDA one day a week, whilst continuing to make a major contribution to the wider University through your internationally leading research and teaching in your substantive, Professorial role.

Leeds Institute for Data Analytics (LIDA) is the home of Data Science and AI at the University of Leeds. Our role is to bring together applied research groups and data scientists from all Faculties and disciplines, to conduct inter-disciplinary and impact-oriented research, education and training, applying cutting-edge data science, machine learning and AI to real-world problems. 

Leeds Institute for Data Analytics (LIDA) brings together applied research groups and data scientists from all disciplines, opening up new opportunities to understand health and human behaviour and casting light on the action required to tackle a wide range of health, social and environmental problems. LIDA works to ensure the effective use of vast data collections to drive research, policy development and public good initiatives; connecting academic research and education with external partners in business, government and the third sector, LIDA is matching the world class capabilities of the University with organisations needs and opportunities, becoming a major powerhouse for research, civic engagement and business growth in the North of England and beyond.

The Institute has more than quadrupled its research base since it started in 2015 to exceed £80 million. The last five years have seen a host of organisations make use of LIDA’s expertise including Sainsbury’s, Asda, YouGov and Leeds City Council, to facilitate research that makes a real difference.

LIDA also has a growing education and training portfolio helping to address the national skills gap in data analytics, including: MSc Data Science (statistics), Data Science Development training programmes and centres for doctoral training in “Artificial Intelligence for Medical Diagnosis and Care”. 

LIDA is underpinned by highly secure data science and AI analytic services, located in a collaborative, multidisciplinary setting, to a growing portfolio of research projects and education and training programmes from across the University, including those involving highly sensitive and confidential data.
