Job Description

LEADERSHIP and ADMINISTRATION: Facilitate, develop, and sustain:

  • visionary leadership within the Department, the College, and the University. This entails working effectively with the Dean and other campus and health system executives to bolster the prominence and impact of nutrition and dietetics in the research and clinical environment.
  • department's endeavors in research, teaching, and service, ensuring these activities align with our strategic objectives and uphold our commitment to excellence.
  • prudent management of departmental finances. Financial strategies should aim to foster growth, sustainability, and overall development of the department. 
  • a supportive and stimulating environment that contributes to the professional and personal development of all faculty, staff, and students within the department.
  • a strong reputation for the department at local, state, regional, national, and international levels.
  • an outcomes-focused approach to teaching, service, and scholarship. This approach should effectively engage all stakeholders including our associated community partners, promoting synergy and collective success.
  • departmental practices to guarantee the quality and credibility of all programs and accreditation requirements.

RESEARCH: Develops and maintain an environment conducive to faculty obtaining intramural and extramural funding by promoting and fostering:

  • departmental research and other scholarly activities including an atmosphere of intellectual curiosity and scientific rigor.
  • interdisciplinary, interprofessional, and translational research and scholarship towards a holistic approach to nutrition and dietetics research.
  • research partnerships and collaborations both within our campus and across the wider community to leverage shared resources, enhance research capacity, and contribute to a vibrant research culture on the OUHSC campus.

TEACHING: Inspire and support:

  • curricular evolution and excellence in entry-level professional and post-professional programs to ensure course content remains robust, relevant, and responsive to the ever-evolving field of nutrition and dietetics.
  • faculty development in innovative teaching methodologies; effective use of student and peer-educator feedback; development of educational scholarship. These efforts will enhance faculty teaching proficiency, creativity, and adaptability.
  • excellence among students in the professional and post-professional academic programs to foster intellectual growth and empower students for nutrition-centric careers in clinical, community, and research endeavors.

SERVICE: Guide and facilitate:

  • collaborative relationships between practice communities and department.
  • community and academic partnerships.
  • collaboration to enhance and grow inter-professional clinical practices.
  • department participation in University and College service.
  • department representation in regional and national professional activities.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: Promote and advocate:

  • department engagement with alumni.
  • relationships with existing donors, and the identification and cultivation of future donors.
  • the department through development and maintenance of strong external relationships within the community.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate for this position will have an exemplary track record in research, teaching, and scholarship, as well as proven leadership skills, including mentoring of junior faculty.  In addition, substantial experience in guiding the education and training of graduate and professional students, post-doctoral fellows, and junior faculty is expected. The Chair will foster a collaborative and transparent environment to promote, and define, overall strategic interests and growth within the Department of Nutritional Sciences. These efforts will involve close collaboration with the Dean and other senior leadership within the College of Allied Health (CAH) and across OUHSC campus to promote core missions within research, education, and service. These efforts will also include collaborating with OUHSC’s health system partner, OU Health, to identify and implement intentional integration opportunities for Department faculty, trainees, and students.

Appointment will be at the Professor or Associate Professor level. A qualified applicant for this position must have earned a post-professional doctoral degree from an accredited university, with a preference for professional training in nutritional sciences or dietetics. We seek a nationally recognized researcher and scholar with a strong track-record of extramural funding and research collaborations, including current NIH or other federal funding.
