Responsibilities

The purpose of the position is to provide the College with capacity for data-driven decision-making through the collection, display, and reporting of institutional data. Under the direction of the Vice Provost for Institutional and Educational Effectiveness, the position incumbent will perform a variety of professional-level technical and analytical duties in support of the College's data and analysis functions, particularly in regard to student success. The analyst must be able to process complex data from various systems using Excel, Power BI, and programming in Python and other computer languages. Extensive knowledge of these data tools is essential and required for visual, tabular and statistical analyses.

1. Database Management
Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Research and the Office of
Assessment and Educational Effectiveness to build and maintain
databases regarding Student, Degree, Courses, Financial Aid, and other
student-related information.
Work with the IEE division colleagues to optimize the database
organization system.
Collaborate with the IEE division colleagues to establish a calendar of
database updates, maintain, and manage the system This database is
necessary to deliver timely and accurate data to the community. It will be
essential for all functions related to data driven decisions for SMC.
Support the Data Governance Committee's endeavors to maintain and
improve data integrity and maintenance.
Manage the data requests by monitoring the inquiries.

2. Data Validation, Analysis, and Report Production
Assist in data verification and analysis for internal and external reporting
of College data, including IPEDS and WSCUC reporting, external college
and association surveys (e.g., US New. and World Reports, AICCU) and
internal committee and task force reports.
Maintain a clear and reliable connection between the College Fact Book
information and the database.
Keep detailed records of how each line of data is pulled from PowerBI,
prioritized for process hierarchy, and analyzed.
Establish and maintain the calendar of data production needs.
Query the student database to build spreadsheets, statistical tables, and
associated graphics using Excel and Power BI.
Under the direction of VPIEE, compile and analyze information about the
University using human resources, budget, financial, student, and
instructional data.
Collaborate with VPIEE to provide analysis and institutional data in
support of campus student success initiatives and external grant
proposals.

3. Predictive Modeling
Assist the Office of Institutional Research to build predictive modeling for
student retention and for majors switching patterns.
Assist the Office of Assessment and Educational Effectiveness to analyze
complex data sets using quantitative and qualitative research methods
and statistical techniques.
Assist the IEE division to respond to various needs that require inferential
statistical procedures and techniques and integration of qualitative data.
Collaborate with the IEE division colleagues and stakeholders to optimize
the data presentation and storytelling using Word, PowerBI, PowerPoint,
Tableau, NVivo, and Adobe software.
Maintain the data collection, analysis, and reporting calendar, while
responding to one-off or new requests.

4. Student Feedback Survey Administration and Management
Work in Bluenotes (student feedback survey management system) to
develop, maintain, and update projects for reliable collection of student
feedback responses and timely dissemination of results.
Administer student feedback surveys for semester, quarter, January Term,
and summer session calendars.
Issue email notifications for when and how the student feedback form
will open, when it'll end, and when and how to access the results.
Troubleshoot with the Bluenotes representative to respond to ensure
smooth and reliable administration of the survey.
Collaborate with VPIEE to produce a summary of results for both
institutional-level aggregation of data as well as disaggregation of data in
response to the program's unique needs.

5. Professional Development
Participate in professional organizations, conferences, and workshops to
keep informed of current developments, research and best practices.

Experience and Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: REQUIRED: BA PREFERRED: MS, MA
Experience: (years required and applicable field of experience): 1+ higher education, 3+ years data analyst
Skills/Abilities: (e.g. computer skills, written & verbal skills, trades, laws, procedures, technical)
? Demonstrated familiarity with terminology, contemporary issues and concepts in higher education;
? Demonstrated skills in quantitative and qualitative research methods and analysis;
? Demonstrated expertise with Excel;
? Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Tableau, and statistical analysis software (e.g., R, SPSS);
? Understanding of relational database structures, theories, principles and practices;
? Working knowledge of Python or other programming language;
? Strong attention to detail and problem-solving with analytical capabilities to review, intersect, analyze,
and interpret data as well as recognize/resolve inconsistencies;
? Experience with extracting, transforming, loading and analyzing data sets;
? Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills;
? Work independently and as a team member;
? Be service oriented, with a commitment to excellence and professional growth; and
? Working knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
