The University Web and Digital Marketing Strategist manages the day-to-day activities associated with Ball State digital marketing. As a member of the Marketing and Communications digital marketing team, the University Web and Digital Marketing Strategist will assist with the creation, delivery, and maintenance of digital content to its various channels. This role will also provide consultation to campus partners in order to meet business goals and optimize Ball State’s digital presence for its various audiences.

Job Function:

The University Web and Digital Marketing Strategist manages the day-to-day activities associated with Ball State digital marketing. As a member of the Marketing and Communications digital marketing team, the University Web and Digital Marketing Strategist will assist with the creation, delivery, and maintenance of digital content to its various channels. This role will also provide consultation to campus partners in order to meet business goals and optimize Ball State’s digital presence for its various audiences.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

Preferred Education:

Bachelor's degree in marketing, journalism, public relations, telecommunications, graphic design or related field from an accredited institution.

Minimum Experience:

At least two years of experience with production and management on digital marketing channels and platforms.

Preferred Experience:

At least three years of professional experience in maintaining and developing websites; experience working with a web content management system; web graphic design experience using multimedia programs such as Photoshop and Dreamweaver; basic knowledge of HTML; experience managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, experience with CRM Management Systems, and working as part of an integrated marketing team in a professional setting.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under the leadership of the Chief Digital Marketing and Communications Officer, serve as a member of the Marketing and Communications digital team to meet clients’ needs and fulfill the digital strategy of our division.
  • Design and implement all digital marketing services for the University and its colleges and divisions, including but not limited to, web content management, email marketing, internal communications, university calendar and events, short/vanity URLs, social media, online video, digital campaigns, and analytics and reporting.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional members of Marketing and Communications to conduct project intake, develop strategies, execute deliverables, perform quality control (QC), report on marketing metrics and evaluation of digital projects and campaigns; adhere to production schedules, communicate routinely about work progress, and provide consistent feedback to the designated Project Manager using project management tools, including Workfront, to meet project deadlines.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional members of Marketing and Communications to develop and implement annual marketing plans for colleges and divisions; plan and conduct appropriate content and branding audit schedules to ensure the integrity of digital content and communicate with team members and campus partners about needed changes.
  • As assigned by Chief Digital Marketing and Communications Officer, oversee the function and execution of digital platforms or channels, including, but not limited to, university calendar, campus map, online directories, online forms, content management systems (CMS), and email marketing tools.
  • Collaborate with the University Web and Digital Marketing Manager to develop materials and provide professional development to university communicators on topics including content management systems (CMS) content management, brand and style guidelines, university calendar, and employee profiles.
  • Collaborate with the University Web and Digital Marketing Manager by contributing to information architecture models, content strategy, search engine optimization (SEO), and Google Analytics implementation, measurement, and reporting.
  • Support university constituent digital marketing requests through HelpDesk ticket requests and provide communication to Marketing and Communications leadership and campus partners.
  • Serve a role on the University Crisis Management Team that might include content publishing, website updates, social media monitoring, and/or other digital assignments as determined; may be needed after normal business hours and may require responding to issues identified on critical digital platforms in coordination with University Technology Services.
  • Research and maintain a level of working knowledge on university marketing platforms, marketing automation, constituent relationship management (CRM), internal communications, email marketing, social media, digital signage, and current marketing best practices.
  • Support Digital Marketing team with web content rewrites during site redesign processes and/or create new, original content to fulfill client needs during site development. Utilize best practices for web writing, and work closely with Social Media Strategist to ensure proper promotion of new content and/or websites.
  • In collaboration with Marketing and Communications writers and producers, develop and maintain editorial style guidelines for digital content.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
