Summary

Seeking a Research Technician to perform the routine elements of research work that requires the use of skills, technical and academic knowledge to follow established procedures and record results. Works in experimental neurophysiology laboratory to assist with mouse breeding, general lab maintenance, genotyping, surgical implantation of electrodes for EEG recordings, in vivo functional imaging experiments, behavioral analysis of mice under various conditions using computer assisted algorithms, administration of antiepileptic drugs during chronic studies.
 

Job Duties

  • Mouse colony management:
    • Organize breeder cages, keep records, ensure animal guidelines are followed, transfer animals to/from collaborators, take tissue samples, run and document genotyping process lab maintenance: order routine laboratory reagents, regularly perform inventory, ensure supplies are stocked, schedule regular maintenance of biosafety cabinets, fume hoods etc.
  • Experimental duties
    • Prepares experiments, including animal drug administration, fluorescent dye injection, compiles data and organizes for analysis.
  • Assists with processing budget and  expense reports and other documents in SAP and Concur
  • Communicates with department staff as needed for various organizational tasks.
  • Communicates with the institutional animal care and use committee and center for  comparative medicine to ensure compliance with animal protocol and guidelines. 
     

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Laboratory experience handling and breeding mice.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing electrophysiological and behavioral data.
