The Director of Championship Performance and Well-Being will lead a comprehensive health, wellness, speed, power, and performance program for Ball State University’s 19 varsity athletics teams and its 450 student-athletes.

Job Function:

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, Sport Science, Kinesiology, Health Care Administration, or related field from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Education:

Master's degree in Athletic Training, Sport Science, Kinesiology, Health Care Administration, or related field from an accredited college or university.

Minimum Experience:

At least five years of professional experience in a related industry.

Preferred Experience:

At least seven-ten years of professional experience in a related industry.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide outstanding leadership of a comprehensive health, wellness, speed, power, and performance program.
  • Develop effective and trusting partnerships with Athletics staff to foster the coordination required for addressing student-athletes' needs.
  • Supervise and assist with coordinating care for the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic-related injuries and illnesses for student-athletes.
  • Provide consistent communication with all necessary staff regarding health and sports performance issues.
  • Provide supervision of dedicated professional staff in the areas of athletic training and strength and conditioning. Also serve as the Athletics liaison to sports dietitians at Ascension St. Vincent Sports Performance, the University Health Center, and Athletic Mental Health Graduate Assistant.
  • Work to identify and build relationships with campus entities, departments, and staff to develop resources for student-athletes, coaches, and teams that may enhance programming, support, and health or performance-related resources.
  • Assist with oversight of prompt emergency care for severe injuries and ensure coordinated referral to emergency medical systems or personnel.
  • Assist in providing staff an overview of the latest performance and technology developments to ensure Ball State Athletics stays engaged, progressive, and a leader in sport performance service delivery.
  • Assist with coordinating medical providers and serve as the administrative liaison with team physicians and other medical professionals.
  • Coordinate with staff members within Sports Medicine, Strength & Conditioning, Sports Nutrition, and Sport Psychology to identify and attend quality continuing education programming and professional development opportunities to remain abreast of techniques, ideas, and tools to improve programming and staff development.
  • Coordinate with the integrated Health and Sports Performance staff with the development of rehabilitation and treatment care plans/programs for specific injuries and illnesses for short-term and long-term care, making post-injury assessments, facilitating and monitoring injured athlete return to conditioning programming, return to competition and discharge strategies, and sustainability programming.
  • Monitor, inspect, and ensure medical equipment is maintained to protect the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches, and athletic department members.
  • Research and develop new and evolving training and injury prevention policies, techniques, technologies, and protocols.
  • Supervise and assist with maintaining appropriate Occupational and Safety Health Administration guidelines and a clean, healthy, and safe workplace
  • Serves as the NCAA Health Administrator designation. Reviews, evaluates and develops best practice policies and procedures for the Sports Medicine department and integrated health and Sports Performance Unit.
  • Serve on the department’s mental health and wellness committee, its sports performance capital project committee, and additional departmental, institutional, conference, and national working groups as assigned.
  • Develop and administer the annual budget for the sports medicine department and help provide strategic planning in relation to all supervisory area budgets.
  • Oversee and coordinate the Ball State Athletics Drug Testing, along with coordination with mental health counselors, the sports medicine team, and campus resources for follow-up interventions.
  • Supervise the maintenance, organization, and confidential record keeping of all medical records, medical supplies, and physical property according to department protocol. \
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
