Job Description

Position Description
The RA will provide technical support to the lab, including general lab management and preparation of media and glassware. In addition, the RA will carry out research under the direction of the Principal Investigator and other lab members, contributing to the lab's publications on mechanisms of gene expression. Techniques used will include recombinant DNA cloning and analysis, protein purification and analysis, and yeast molecular genetics. There will also be opportunities to learn microscopy and mass spectrometry. Previous technicians in the Buratowski lab have co-authored published papers, so the position can be a good fit for a recent college grad who wants to get an in-depth lab experience before graduate studies (preference will be given to candidates who can commit to two years). We've also had technicians who stay with us longer, running their own independent research projects. The lab offers a rich academic environment with plenty of opportunities for people who want to do cutting-edge science.

Responsibilities:
  • Bench research (rDNA cloning, protein purification, and analysis, yeast molecular genetics).
  • Lab support (media prep & glassware, etc).
Basic Qualifications
  • College degree or equivalent work experience, preferably in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, or chemistry.
  • Previous laboratory-related work experience (relevant coursework may count towards experience).
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • Minimum one year of experience doing lab work.
  • Good organization and communication skills.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Ability to follow directions and learn procedures to the point they can be done independently.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with an appropriate undergraduate degree (related to molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or genetics) and one or more years of lab research experience (class labwork may be acceptable).
  • The position requires a highly motivated person who can follow directions well but also work with some independence.
  • Previous technicians in the Buratowski lab have co-authored published papers, so the position can be a good fit for a recent college grad who wants to get a year or two of lab experience before graduate studies.
  • We've also had technicians who stay with us longer, running their own independent research projects.
  • The lab offers a rich academic environment with plenty of opportunities for people who want to do cutting-edge science.
