Position Description
The Financial Analyst is a member of the Financial Planning and Analysis team within the Finance department. The incumbent will support FP&A activities for a portfolio of departments, divisions, and initiatives, and will be responsible for developing financial models, preparing analyses, and supporting the annual budget process.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, the Financial Analyst will support the School's budget office in its effort to improve financial processes, evaluate and improve systems, and implement process improvement initiatives. Will serve as financial liaison between client departments and management, drawing on a comprehensive understanding of business activities and goals. Will evaluate interim budget-to-actual and year-over-year financial performance for a portfolio of departments. Will routinely prepare and present analyses to the Associate Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, CFO, and other members of the school leadership. Will participate in the development of BI dashboards.

In addition, will provide general accounting support to department administrative personnel, and assist in the resolution of budget issues. Duties also include consulting with departments on critical strategic/financial questions that require thoughtful problem-structuring and analytic capability, and develop an understanding of the operational challenges faced by departments, as well as preparing ad-hoc financial and accounting analyses as requested.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • MBA or other relevant professional/graduate degree is strongly preferred
  • Excellent analytic, written, and verbal communication skills are needed
  • Unquestionable integrity
  • Must be well organized, flexible, and able to manage multiple, challenging projects simultaneously in a fast-paced work setting
  • Must have the ability to learn quickly, initiate action, and an eagerness to grow
  • Strong ability to build effective working relationships within the finance team and with partner departments
  • Extensive experience with software such as MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint essential and expertise with Oracle and Hyperion financials and database tools preferred
Additional Information
This position is based in Boston and some in-person on-campus work will be required, and flexible/remote work is an option. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA).
