The Project Manager for Networking and Storage Infrastructure will work within Harvard Medical School’s Information Technology department to plan, conduct, and supervise the completion of complex information technology projects from project inception through project completion. The Project Manager will be assigned to one or more highly complex technology projects or programs that span multiple functional areas and technology units within HMS and the IT Department, such as data center migration and storage capacity restructuring. The Project Manager’s primary assignment is to support the PM needs of the IT Infrastructure team, which includes Server Hosting and Cloud Services, Networking, and Storage. This position will assist business, infrastructure, and technical teams in support of solutions that address immediate and future storage needs, particularly associated with the requirements of the Research Mission areas. This will include requirements gathering, planning, implementation, and closeout, focusing on process, documentation, and communication. The Project Manager will also be responsible for assembling the project team, assigning individual responsibilities, identifying appropriate resources needed, and developing schedules to ensure timely completion of projects.

Additional projects in the scope of Infrastructure may also be related to technology enhancements associated with sustaining Information Security compliance. The Project Manager may manage a number of projects and/or programs simultaneously.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage projects from project inception (discovery) to successful completion, leading the orderly progression of projects from the proposal stage through completion by interacting with administrators, IT staff, faculty, hospital staff and the Societies.
  • Absorb and leverage project related technology to ensure effective project management and collaboration
  • Manage resources, scope, prioritization, work-plans, and the investigation of future enhancements.
  • Make independent decisions within the confines established by sponsors/business owners
  • Coordinate with stakeholders and technologists to define agreed upon project scope, outcomes, requirements, schedule and resources; develop actionable project plans and project artifacts; identify, manage and escalate, as appropriate, project risks, issues, and roadblocks to timely delivery.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to leverage resources for successful project completion and serve as primary contact with user groups and stakeholders.
  • Serve as expert regarding scope and project objectives, solution’s value and technology, as well as the role and function of each team member.
  • Leverage steering and executive committees for decision-making, change management, and communications.
  • Facilitate and drive work sessions, leveraging flexible toolkit of techniques, with the ability to adapt approach to the needs of the project.
Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum of five years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  •  
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, advanced Excel skills
  • Knowledge of information technology applications, processes, software and equipment
  • Highly specialized knowledge of a specific technology
  • Knowledge of advanced IT project management principles (e.g. Agile) and software
  • Demonstrated cross-functional project management experience
  • Demonstrated team performance skills, service mindset approach, and the ability to act as a trusted advisor
  • Attitude that supports an Agile working environment
  • Completion of Harvard IT Academy Project Management Foundations course (or external equivalent) preferred
  • PMP or other relevant certification and experience preferred, e.g., Scrum Master
  • Experience with matrixed organizational structures a plus
  • Familiarity with data center technologies preferred
Additional Information
This position is based in Boston and some in-person on-campus work will be required, and flexible/remote work is an option. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA).
