JOB SUMMARY:
Independently perform advanced troubleshooting and administration of infrastructure systems. Role may focus on one or more technical area. Typically work as part of a team to implement IT solutions to complex business problems. Participate in projects, manage projects with low to medium complexity.

BASIC FUNCTION:
As a member of the HMS Media Services group, the Senior Audio Visual Engineer will participate in the planning, design, installation, and tier III support of AV systems for classrooms, meeting/event spaces and video production studios. 
Working closely with academic, research, and administrative departments, the position will design and deliver effective and easy to use AV solutions that solve advanced business problems for a hybrid community through content sharing, web/video conferencing, on-demand and live streaming, and video recording/production. The position will support teaching, learning, communication, as well as in-person, remote and hybrid collaboration across HMS. 
In addition, the position will contribute to the engineering effort to evaluate, define and document HMS audiovisual standards, and best practices. The Senior AV Engineer will partner with other IT groups, both within HMS, and with the larger University as a whole, to ensure interoperability. Additionally, the Senior AV Engineer will work effectively with AV vendors, consultants, and integration providers. The position will provide advanced level technical and project support and may be a key contributor on multiple projects simultaneously, managing projects with low to medium complexity.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate, design, recommend and implement AV systems with medium complexity
  • Integrate the following into AV designs: hardware, software, and cloud solutions, while supporting content sharing, web/video conferencing, video recording/production, live streaming, and on-demand video
  • Ensure AV systems are robust, scalable, and secure
  • Maintain comprehensive AV project plans and documentation
  • Contribute to multiple projects, managing projects with low to medium complexity
  • Oversee outside contractors in support of projects and system maintenance, ensuring systems are fully commissioned and as-built documentation is provided
  • Provide Tier III, advanced technical support for in-room AV systems, as well as cloud video solutions serving as a subject matter expert 
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, AV vendors, and manufacturers; leverage University-wide relationships, agreements, and standards
  • Participate in the implementation of IT infrastructure, ensuring adherence to IT standards
  • •    Monitor performance metrics, ensuring optimal and efficient use of resources, continuous improvement, and compliance with service levels
  • Collaborate with IT colleagues in planning and performing regular system maintenance across all systems in support of AV
  • Maintain knowledge of new and emerging AV hardware, software, and cloud platforms (such as Zoom and Panopto)
  • Collaborate on the development of documentation and training content for students, faculty, staff, and hospital affiliates
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum of two years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience
Working Conditions
  • Occasionally required to work outside of normal business hours, and may be called during off hours
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  •  
  • Experience with one of the following: video systems, web conferencing platforms, live streaming, and on-demand streaming platforms
  • Experience in managing multiple tasks and projects
  • Ability to lift and transport objects less than 70 pounds
  • AVIXA Certified Technical Specialist (CTS). AVIXA Certified Technical Specialist or ability to attain certification within 12 months of hire
  • Success in planning and implementing new technologies across an enterprise
  • Collaboration system design experience
  • Knowledge of service management software
  • Skill in reading and creating technical drawings
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with a variety of leading AV manufacturers such as Legrand, Bi Amp, Crestron, Sony and others
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and cultivate strong relationships and work effectively with diverse groups including: IT & AV Customer Support Group, Teaching & Learning, and IT Infrastructure
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to share information effectively and confidently to internal and external audiences of varying levels of technical knowledge
  • Customer service experience
  • One or more vendor certifications from Crestron, Biamp, QSC, or others
  • Experience with cloud and on-prem video platforms such as Zoom, Cisco, Panopto, Wowza, AWS and others
  • Demonstrated “can do” work ethic coupled with effective time management and ability to overcome ambiguous or under-defined problems, simplify and clarify objectives
  • Experience working in a life sciences or higher education environment
  • Excellent time management, organization, planning skills and ability to operate with minimal supervision
  • Participate in off hours on-call schedule
  • Participate in off-hours coverage for major events, upgrades, and other duties related to the position
Additional Information
This is a term appointment, with an end date of 10/25/2024, with the possibility of renewal contingent on funding.
