Position Summary

Under limited supervision, the Research Laboratory Technician is responsible for the reception, curation, annotation, and processing of collected clinical lab specimens. The Research Laboratory Technician is also responsible for preparing solutions, labeling tubes/specimen containers and maintaining laboratory supplies. Duties and/or tasks include but are not limited to cleaning of laboratory equipment utilizing proper cleaning protocols and procedures.

Key Responsibilities include:

· Utilizing laboratory equipment and established protocols, performs a variety of laboratory procedures and services.

· Records and validates results for accuracy and completeness.

· Responsible for the collection, classification and filing of scientific data.

· Maintains required records, reports and statistics as directed in bank’s specimen database including confidential patient records.

· Trains and assists research aides and assistant in procedures and use of equipment.

· Receives, distributes, and maintains supply inventories in laboratories.

· Collects, washes, cleans, and sterilizes used glassware, equipment and supplies using proper sterilization techniques.

· Prepares simple stains, solutions, culture media, and may process tissue following established procedures.

· Using appropriate or specified equipment collects and delivers material for analysis. Ensures proper labeling and pertinent information.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

· High school diploma or equivalent

· Minimum two (2) years of related experience or combined education and experience in related field.

Preferred education experience and skills:

· Associates or technical school degree preferred.

· Experience with handling samples Personal Health Information-attached identifiers and the rules surround such.

· Experience with Epic, Lab-Vantage or similar Medical Records and/or Laboratory Information Management System, Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
