Job Summary
The Director of Multicultural Student Engagement will provide leadership and strategic direction for fostering an inclusive, welcoming, and engaging campus climate to ensure an inclusive student experience for all students through programming, advocacy and support. The position is responsible for developing and managing student programming initiatives to educate, improve awareness, respect, and appreciation of multiculturalism and inclusivity. The Director is also responsible for developing and facilitating programs and services to support the efforts for recruiting, retaining and graduating diverse students.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Manage the office of Multicultural Student Engagement. Responsible for creating and implementing policies and procedures for the Multicultural Student Center located in the Jaguar Student Activity Center, as well as recommending additional spaces on campus that may be used to assist students of various cultural backgrounds. Supervises one coordinator, assistant director, administrative assistant and supports the coordinator in supervision of the graduate/student assistant employees in the MSC. Responsible for proactive and responsible budget management of student activity fee dollars.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and coordinate programs, services, and initiatives that support the Division of Enrollment and Student Affairs strategic planning commitment to provide inclusive communities for all students. Develop trainings to enhance the student body's understanding of cultural competencies. Enhance the co-curricular cultural experience for students through structured programming and campus initiatives. Assess and track student learning as a result of this programming.
  • Collaborate with campus partners. Serve on the Council of Equity Leaders (CEL). Facilitate diversity and intercultural life education efforts through academic and other key campus partnerships. Work with campus partners to implement special diversity, inclusion, and equity program collaborations that serve the broader mission of the division and the University.
  • Create student development and leadership opportunities for Multicultural Presidents Roundtable. Host monthly meetings with presidents and advisors to collaborate on programming and discussions about current issues.
  • Create programming and services to increase retention and persistence of diverse student populations. Lead and direct the MMP (Multicultural Mentorship Program) and AAMI (African American Men's Initiative) and teaching LDRS 3000 and LDRS 2000 course.
  • Provide support to programs and other activities within the Division of Enrollment and Student Affairs. Perform all other job-related duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs.


Required Qualifications
Masters degree in counseling, higher education, student affairs personnel or related field with five years experience in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications
At least 5-7 years of successful relevant professional/progressive experience in a leadership and/or supervisory role related to inclusion and diversity in higher education. Grant-writing experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Ability to assess program needs and develop and coordinate new programming initiatives. A demonstrated commitment to diversity in all its forms, including a track record of institutional programming. Ability and commitment to advocating for student success. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, the ability to speak to a variety of audiences, including students, parents, faculty, and alumni. A demonstrated leadership style that builds collaborative relationships and consensus with faculty, staff, and students. Ability to be successful in a high-task environment. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Detail-oriented. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (work outside of the normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)
Pay Grade: 21
