JOB SUMMARY:
This is a 12-month, non-tenure-track, part or full-time position. The successful candidate will teach courses, advise and assist teacher candidates, build and maintain relationships with field staff and school members, manage and mentor student teaching supervisors, and promote the enrollment growth of the program with special attention to the recruitment of a diverse candidate pool. This position is housed within the Department of Curriculum & Instruction in the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the flagship campus of the University of Wisconsin System. The University of Wisconsin-Madison occupies ancestral Ho-Chunk land, a place their nation has called Teejop (day-JOPE) since time immemorial. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Department of Curriculum & Instruction, as a teaching faculty in an innovative Masters program for teacher certification. The Department of Curriculum & Instruction is home to a number of research-based teacher certification programs. These programs are designed around practice-based field experiences in which students observe, assist, and teach in both classrooms and out-of-school educational programs as they work toward earning their initial educator licenses. We are seeking a teaching faculty member
to provide leadership within the mathematics education program and mentorship for the pre-service teacher candidates in that program.

Principal duties include:
1) teach math education course(s) in the content pedagogical series using varied methods suitable for in-person and/or virtual instruction;
2) supervise teacher candidates in their field placements;
3) lead math program planning and implementation;
4) manage and mentor field supervisors in their work with students and cooperating teachers;
5) develop and maintain relationships with cooperating teachers and local schools;
6) manage the overall progress of the math teacher candidates, including the application process of the incoming cohort and certification/degree process of the graduating cohort;
7) participate with coordinators in other content areas to coordinate, assess and improve the program.

Additional Responsibilities May Include:
1) teaching of additional courses as needed
2) recruiting initiatives to engage a diverse group of prospective applicants
3) providing leadership to the program and teacher education within the Curriculum & Instruction Dept
4) Other administration tasks as needed

RESPONSIBILITIES: Please note: The process for placement into the Teaching Professor and Research Professor titles is to be determined. Designs and facilitates classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction within an academic discipline to ensure quality delivery of instruction and integration of content within an academic work unit. Each department must define the specific substantive criteria for level advancement, however, differences between successively higher title levels must reflect demonstrable differences in experience and knowledge gained, applied to the specific duties of the function. Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/or laboratory settings, including grading. Serves as an instructor of record.
5% Develops and designs curriculum and instructional material relevant to a course of instruction
10% Advises students on academic and career direction within a specific field of study
50% Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including assessment of student performance
10% May supervises student employees involved in development or delivery of instruction
5% Collaborates with department faculty and staff to develop teaching strategies relevant to the discipline
5% Contributes to the development of teaching and learning scholarly work including publications and presentations
5% Contributes to the strategic development of curriculum and academic content through various mediums to ensure the integrity of the educational mission of the work unit
10% Assess learner performance and prepares reports recommending instrucitonal improvements.
