As an Ophthalmic Electrophysiology Specialist, you will:
-Manage and run the ophthalmic electrophysiology unit and serve as research associate in a research laboratory.
-Perform ophthalmic electrophysiology examinations, compile clinical reports, perform preliminary interpretations, and conduct clinical trials.
-Conduct translational and basic science research.
-Research responsibilities include the design and execution of experiments, data analysis, and writing manuscripts and grants.
-The focus of the research laboratory is regenerative medicine and drug delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct ocular electrophysiology tests on patients and clinical research participants
  • Evaluates physician orders and follows appropriate protocols for examinations
  • Determines the validity and quality of test results and the need for additional tests and compiles relevant tracings for interpretation
  • Perform preliminary interpretation of electrophysiology tests
  • Investigates equipment and protocol concerns and maintains preventative    maintenance
  • Maintain inventory of disposable equipment for the electrophysiology lab
  • Takes initiative to troubleshoot technical issues with equipment manufacturer support
  • Performs, certifies, and transmits clinical studies per protocol
  • Design and conduct experiments in research lab setting
  • Handle small animals
  • Perform surgical procedures and ophthalmic imaging on animal models
  • Analyze data and present results in written and oral format
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the theory and scientific

Education:

  • PhD degree in biological sciences or equivalent degree preferred
  • Motivated individual with Master’s degree in biological sciences with at least 2 years work experience in a research lab or clinical unit would also be considered

Competencies (Complexity of Work):

  • Training will be provided to perform and analyze electrophysiology tests
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment.
  • Must be able to multitask and appropriately prioritize needs
  • Good communication skills
  • Able to design and conduct experiments, analyze data
  • Write papers/books and present research at national and international meetings
  • Molecular and cellular biology, immunohistochemistry

Work Experience:

  • Completion of postdoctoral training program in biological science or master’s program with 2 years of work experience in a research laboratory or clinical unit

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior ERG experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate medical equipment utilized to perform testing procedures and to perform bench research.  Good eye-hand coordination.
  • May require long periods of standing and walking

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Lab coat, gloves and goggles/face mask when applicable
