Job Description

Are you a researcher with proven abilities to carry out research in computer vision and machine learning? Are you able to use your expertise to develop a computer vision system for accurate detection and colour classification of clothes for e-commerce images?

The School of Design is a highly ranked department with a vibrant research culture and a commitment to excellence in teaching. You will join an experienced, innovative and diverse team and will be actively involved in research, producing high quality publications and contributing to the School’s Research Excellence Framework (REF).

As a successful applicant, you will join the Leeds Institute of Textiles and Colour (LITAC), a collaborative, multi-disciplinary research institute addressing global challenges in colour, fashion and textiles through research and innovation, as well as teaching. We are particularly focused on the development of innovative science and technology, materials, methods and processes. Technology-driven sustainable development is a major part of our work, hosted by the School of Design at the University of Leeds. You will join an experienced, innovative and diverse team and will be actively involved in research, producing high quality publications and contributing to the School’s Research Excellence Framework (REF).

The project aims to develop a computer vision system for accurate detection and colour classification of clothes for e-commerce images. This will be achieved by combining both a colour classification algorithm and an image detection algorithm to detect items of clothing within an image through bounding box technology, then classify the colour of that item of clothing to as accurate a shade as possible. The outcome of the project will help to define requirements to detect the exact colour shade of each item of clothing identified. The Research Associates will play an active part in all aspects of research from data preparation, to the development of research questions, modelling and analysis, and writing up/publication.
