About This Role:

The Kansas State University School of Music, Theatre, and Dance invites applications for an Academic Advisor.

The Academic Advisor will engage current and prospective students in the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance on making academic decisions. The successful candidate will serve as an advisor for the Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Arts in Music, and Music Minor with an aim to include Bachelor of Music Education majors in future semesters, while also serving as a supportive advisor for the Bachelor of Arts/Sciences in Theatre, Secondary Major in Dance and the Human Experience, and Theatre and Dance Minors. Additionally, the position serves as a liaison to the College in creating line schedules, course updates, and course bindings. The successful candidate will be a prompt communicator, share developmentally appropriate advice with students, and encourage the overall well-being of students with the ideals of equity and belonging in order to meet our diverse student population. Advisors maintain appropriate confidentiality, update student advising records, and contribute to the planning and delivery of academic advising related events and programs such as new student orientation, campus visits, scholarship auditions, and other student success initiatives.

The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance has 225 undergraduate Music majors pursuing the B.M., B.A., and B.M.E. degrees; 70 graduate Music students pursuing M.M. degrees; 40 Theatre majors pursuing the B.A. and B.S. degrees; 20 graduate Theatre students pursuing the M.A degree in theatre with a concentration in drama therapy; 25 secondary majors in dance; and offers minors and certificates in Music, Theatre, and Dance. The School has 50 full-time and 1 part-time faculty member, is supported by a Director and 4 Associate Directors, a full-time academic advisor, and 3 full-time administrative staff members.

The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance is accredited by NAST, NASM, and NADTA and is housed within the College of Arts and Sciences, the “intellectual and academic core of the University” with 23 academic units. What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree
Experience working with high school students, college students, and parents relating to educational services
Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in music, music education, psychology, counseling, student development, higher education leadership or a related field
Prior advising experience
Background in the arts
Strong experience of using database technology or academic management systems
Ability to work with people of many backgrounds
Ability to respond, adapt, and problem solve in a fast-paced environment
Other Requirements:

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
